“It doesn’t look like you’ll need stitches…” for willa and jay pls
This has been sitting in my drafts for an eternity and I just never posted it because I’m a shit person who never follows through on anything in a timely manner. Enjoy, love.
“Your man’s here,“ Maggie informed her when she came out of a treatment room. Willa turned her eyes to the entrance and saw Jay looking pretty banged up but standing nonetheless.
“He’s not my man,“ she said and made her way over to him.
“He put a ring on it,“ Maggie argued, walking alongside her. “He’s your man.“ She couldn’t keep the smile from creeping onto her face. Maggie veered left into the nurse’s station, and Willa finally reached the man she had somehow agreed to marry.
She took a quick look at his jaw and the bruising around his right eye, refusing to greet her idiot fiancé. “What happened to you?“
He shrugged. “A witness ran,” he explained. “He got a few punches in.”
“A few?“
He shrugged again, and when he did, Willa spotted a flash of red on his side under his arm. “Whoa, hold on,” she said and grabbed his arm, pushing it out of the way. “You’re bleeding.”
“I am?“ His tone of voice made her look up.
She groaned. “Come with me.“ Once in the treatment room, she told him to remove his shirt so she could take a better look at the bleeding. He wriggled his eyebrows at her but just took it off when he noticed she was unamused.
Trying not to be distracted by his physique, which was still a common occurrence after all the time they’d been together, she looked at the cut. “Arm up,” she instructed. He complied. “It doesn’t look like you’ll need stitches, but this is more than just a beating, Jay.”
“Okay,“ he said reluctantly. “So the witness may have pulled a switchblade on me.“ He waited for her to say something, but she busied herself looking for something to clean the wound.
“Willa?“
She smiled sweetly at him, and he was about to speak when something cold and stinging was placed on the wound. He hissed.
“You deserved that,” she told him, a smug look on her face. “You’re lucky I love you.“
Totally random question; but how would Will and Jay's first date go? Howwww did they meet? lol
Willa’s been in Chicago about a month when Jay comes into the ED with a cut along his hairline and she stitches him up. They bump into each other at Molly’s that same evening and that’s when the flirting really begins. I don’t really want to reveal too much about their first date because I’m actually writing a fic for them and the first chapter will be up super soon so my lips are sealed!

1, 3, 8, 15, 16 and 17 of those otp questions for willa and jay pls!!!
Yes, thanks, Jess! You’re a star
1. Who is the most affectionate?
Jay. Without a doubt. Willa’s more prone to hold back because of a long list of bad boyfriends so it’s an easy win for Jay on this one.
3. Most common argument?
Who flirted first when they met. It comes up every once in a while and they can never agree who’s right. Jay thinks it’s Willa while Willa insists it was Jay.
8. Nicknames? How did they originate?
They most often call each other by their titles: Detective and Doctor. On occasion, Jay will call her Mina as a shortened (and different) version of her full name which is Wilhelmina.
15. Who wakes up first?
Willa. Not only does she work crazy hours at the hospital, but it’s also a habit from when she used to take care of her mentally ill father who could barely function properly after he had a psychotic break when she was fifteen. Jay’s not far behind her though.
16. Who wants to stay in bed just a little longer?
Jay. Willa’s an early riser (as we’ve established) and likes to get her day started. Jay constantly tries to convince her to stay in bed with him but Willa gets jittery if she’s not doing something.
17. Who says ‘I love you’ first?
Willa. When the thought first occurs to her, it freaks her out because she’s been on her own so long that the fear of losing him gets to her. No one else has ever come close to how Jay makes her feel and it terrifies her but then one day, she just blurts it out, and they have hot sex afterward because they’re them and they can’t keep their hands off each other.
oc ladies + dr. willa atticus → Willa Atticus never thought she would return to Chicago after her mother’s unexpected death but when offered a residency in emergency medicine at Chicago Med, she jumps at the opportunity. As she learns the ins and outs of life as a doctor in one of the country’s most violent cities, falling in love is the last thing on her mind until Jay Halstead walks into the ED and her life.
every last breath + sneak peek
She slipped her coat over her shoulders. “I’m going to say goodbye to everyone and go home,” she said. “I’m exhausted.” She knew Dr. Charles would have all kinds of things to say about her need to remove herself from an awkward situation but pushed his voice out of her head.
Jay said her name again but she ignored him as she zipped up her coat and went to let her co-workers know she was leaving. They tried to persuade her to stay for another drink but Willa didn’t budge. When she got back to the entrance, Jay was waiting for her with his coat on.
She furrowed her brows. “What are you doing?”
He opened the door for her and let her through it first. “Taking you home,” he explained as the door closed behind them. “It’s cold and you don’t have a car.”
She stared at him and the cloud of hot air that came out of his mouth when he spoke. “My apartment’s only a few blocks from here,” she argued. “I can walk.” She started to walk but Jay maneuvered around her so she couldn’t get past him.
“Please, Willa,” he said. “It’s freezing and this is Chicago, no way I’m letting you walk home by yourself.”
She let out a heavy breath, surrendering to his plea. “Fine,” she grumbled. “You win but don’t get used to it.”
He grinned as she pushed past him to the rows of cars parked along the street. “Yes, doctor,” he said, barely keeping the chuckle out of his voice. They walked alongside each other until Jay indicated they were at his car. They climbed in and he turned up the heating so they could get warm as fast as possible. She gave him the address and she noticed his jaw clench but he didn’t say anything - she knew it wasn’t a great neighborhood but the rent was manageable so she’d taken it.
“You know,” he said after a few minutes of silence. “Taking a while to settle in isn’t anything to be ashamed of.”
Willa looked over at him. “I’m not ashamed, it’s just...” she hesitated. “It’s been two months and I like everyone at Med, I just feel like the odd one out when I’m around them. It’s stupid, I know, it’s like I’m back in high school.”
Jay chuckled which was not the reaction she had anticipated. “I get it.”
“You do?”
“I felt the same way when I enlisted.” Her bottom lip dropped a little but she was quick to close her mouth again. She hadn’t realized he had been in the army but how would she? They’d only just met and he didn’t have to tell her anything he didn’t want to. She nodded, deciding there was nothing she could say to that that would make sense.
He pulled up outside her building. “This it?” He eyed it with a less than enthusiastic look on his face.
“Yeah, that’s it,” she said. “Thanks for driving me home, I appreciate it.” She opened the door but was surprised when Jay did the same thing, meeting her on her side of the car.
“I’m gonna ask you the same thing I did twenty minutes ago. What are you doing?”
“Following you to your door,” he explained. “I’m a gentleman.”
She snorted. “Cheeky.” She opened the main door to her building and let Jay come through as well. She pressed the elevator button.
“Cheeky?”
“My aunt’s husband is British. I lived with them for a year when I was sixteen so I picked up a few words and phrases.”
They stepped into the elevator, it was old and creaking in a less than ideal way but at least it had one, and Willa pressed the button for the third floor. Neither of them said a word but she felt strangely comfortable in it. Once they arrived at her floor, she stepped off the elevator with Jay close behind her. They stopped at her front door.
“Thank you,” she said and met his eyes. “You really didn’t have to do this.”
He shrugged. “I wanted to.” Willa turned around and put the key in the lock. She waited for the familiar click and pushed the door open but didn’t walk inside. She didn’t know what he was waiting for, she’d already said thank you.
“Goodnight, Jay,” she said at last.
He leaned down towards her and for a split second she thought he was going to kiss her but his lips made contact with her cheek instead. She was relieved but resented the disappointment that came with it.
When he pulled away, his eyes met hers and there was a small smile playing at the corners of his mouth. “Goodnight, doc.”
She watched him walk down the corridor, watched him wait for the elevator, watched him until he was out of sight. She didn’t even try to wipe the ridiculous grin off her face as she went to bed and drifted off to sleep.
