Hey, I was wondering if I could ask a quick college question, if that's alright. I'm a senior in high school and I keep hearing about "office hours" and still don't have a clear understanding of what they are. I'm also hearing about 50% of people saying to never utilize "office hours" and the other 50% saying they are a struggling student's best friend. Any help would be hugely appreciated, thank you!

Office hours are those times set aside for profs to be in their offices for students to come consult, ask questions, etc. For instance, I'm available every Friday from ten to noon, but also by appointment. And YES, good god, take advantage of office hours! I love it when people come in to talk to me about stuff, because there are so many problems that can be caught early on while they're small and easily squashed. Seriously, there is no better teaching tool than one-on-one time; listening to a student for ten minutes can often do more educational good than lecturing them for two hours. (Plus also then I know who you are, and we've made a human connection, and I know that you give a fuck, and that shit just plain matters.)

So I ended up not working on it at all and just showered and packed for the weekend. But that's rad, because productivity! 

So, because of this thought I realized that I am incredibly lucky to be surrounded by the friends I have. I've been to a lot of places, I've moved a lot and I have never been so happy and comfortable and impressed with these people who I essentially rely on to help me become an individual and form my own opinions by bouncing off of their original, well thought out, structured, ideas.

I'm so privileged to have to have this and I don't want to lose it anytime soon.
