Baseball Meeting - No Evidence - Stringing the Wires - Struck a Substance
15 OCT 1887. Austin Daily Statesman.
LOCAL SHORT STOPS. Fresh, Crispy Gleanings of Recent Noteworthy Happenings.
There will be a meeting of the Capital City Base Ball club to-night, at 8:30 p.m. sharp, at Peeler & Peeler’s law office.
Dick Pollard, the little darkey, who was arrested about a week ago on a charge of stealing money, was filed in the county court and acquitted, there being no evidence whatever upon which to hold him.
Captain Mather began yesterday the work of stringing his electric wires in the business part of the city. His engines have arrived, and the work of putting them in position has begun. Captain Mather expects to begin lighting on or about November 1.
The artesian well which Mr. Radam is boring at his nursery, is now down to a depth of 400 feet. He has just struck a substance which looks like petroleum, smells like petroleum, and who knows but that it may be petroleum. Mr. Radam, however, is after water, and thinks he will get a good flow by drilling 100 feet deeper. He will sink a well at his store in the city, as soon as he has completed the work now under way.
