"Perhaps you're being too hard on yourself." William offered, his voice unemotional but not stern. "People are complicated. We're a lot of different things. Just because you have been selfish in your life, does not mean that you are selfish overall." He hoped this helped in a small way, but, knew in himself it probably did not. "This is why I like machines, you see. They don't do anything other than what you tell them. You don't have to worry about what they think of you."

"Well, I would like to think not. It is your farm, after all." William still wasn't sure why exactly he'd agreed to come along. Most of it was chalked up to curiosity, but, there was a small part that wondered if there was really something to be gained from visiting. Especially, when it came to his memories. "You run this with your sister, though. Yes? I imagine she's the popular one? Sometimes its a woman's touch that makes a house more a home." He glanced at the other, awaiting their reaction.

"A little old to be afraid of the dark, are we not?" William asked from his safe place on the floor. His job was to hold the ladders steady, after all. It was the work of the younger man to go rummaging around in Afton's attic. "I know you're not having a good time, but, remember, it's for Vanessa. Just, have a look around and if you see something you think might belong to her, throw it down." He was hopeful there was something lost to time up there. Both for the sake of his memory and the sake of their savaged relationship.

"Absolutely." William agreed, grateful that the other had gone out of his way to help him deliver an order of animatronics to an indoor playground at such a late hour. "I'd hate to ask any more of you. Although, a ride home wouldn't go unwelcome. It's freezing tonight." Placing the last box of parts into the garage and locking up, he sighed into his hands and rubbed them together to try to generate some heat. "Normally I'd stay, set them up overnight so they could be ready for opening, but, I'm just not feeling up to it. I'm sure they won't mind waiting one more day, right?"

"Well, that makes sense, doesn't it? I'd be more concerned if you were saying you took a liking to terrible people." William's brow sank slowly. He wasn't sure why the young lady was speaking to him about her feelings, but, in a small way, he was grateful to have been chosen. To have been seen as someone who could potentially provide insight or advice. Not that he felt he had much to offer. "I think you should let those kind people stay there. Maybe water their roots every once in a while." he cleared his throat and sighed. "There's a lot of unkind people out there. If you have the kind ones in here," he put his fist gently to his chest. "It'll make everything else a little less painful."

William smiled at the other's comment, almost enjoying the fact the other was as bothered as they were. "Oh, you have no idea." he mused. He pressed a button on his cellphone and from the darkness of his workshop, two bright lights pierced through the darkness and a few heavy, metallic footsteps brought them just close enough to reveal a basic outline of the robotic fox standing watching their conversation. "Now. You don't try to sneak in here again, or you'll learn all about my pieces of work. Understand?"

"Come now, Vanessa. We both know that's not true." He furrowed his brow, looking over to his daughter. His thoughts were a usual garbled mess of conflicting emotions and contradictory action plans. But, the one thing he knew was certain, was that his daughter had his attention. "You've always had a special place in my heart. Even when I remember nothing, I remember you. Perhaps, not in a way you find pleasing, I'll admit." He looked upon her with a great sadness. A recognition of lost potential. Their relationship the dullest of flames, fighting to survive. "Please. Let me tend your wounds. It's the least I can do."
