❝ yeah. i’ve got a group of kids who i’m helping go through their shadowhunter training. all eager to get their first rune and still too quick to act without having all the facts. you know how that goes. ❞
❝ sounds like a really fun job. ❞

“ this is my fault . . . ” (William)
a whimper. a soft, terrified sound that the shadowhunter hadn’t made since she was thirteen. desperation and fear all rolled together and turning her back into the little girl she’d tried so hard to forget. everything about her, from the trembling in her bloody hands to the tears staining her cheeks, portrayed a weakness that she couldn’t bare to show anyone else. she stumbled as she took a step towards him, falling against the man she’d sworn she’d hated and digging her fingers into his shirt to try and hold herself up. the motion seemed to be all it took for her to crumble, hiccuping sobs and pained gasps leaving her as she clung to her father. she knew what was coming. she was cold, bordering on numb, her vision was fading quickly, and regret bubbled in her gut. regret that she was leaving faye, leaving rosie and lukas and everyone else she cared so much for. regret that she knew her death wasn’t just hers - she was taking carina with her and there was nothing she could do to stop it. regret that she couldn’t manage to say anything more than a broken “daddy” when she just wanted him to know she didn’t blame him. in fact, the only thing in her mind that she didn’t regret was the fact that she had brought the damned wolf down - that he couldn’t do to anyone else what he’d done to her family. she fell silent moments before she was gone, her body too tired to keep sobbing. instead she just leaned into william, closing her eyes and trying to remember what her mother looked like. she drew a ragged breath, shifting her head just enough that she could glance up at him one last time… and then she was gone. no exhale, no blink. just blank eyes as her soul separated from her body and stood several steps away, taking in the scene.
“i’m sorry, daddy.”
