Clarification on the Emily Owens, M.D. Finale - SPOILER

Let me explain.

The theme of the episode is "making mistakes." Will's mistake costs the life of a patient. Another patient forgives the tragic mistake of his ex-wife. Emily's mistake is sleeping with the wrong dude. But that is exactly what it is - a mistake - and she knows it. Which is why her narration ends with, "If you don't think things through, you're screwed."

If you check the show creator, Jennie Urman's, Twitter, she explains what would have happened had the show continued after this point.

So, basically, sleeping with Will was a mistake. But, in a way, it needed to happen so she could get him out of her system, so to speak. Now she can get over him and move on with Micah.
