What's tumblr for if not posting pieces of stories I will probably never finish
Her eyes caught the reflected illumination of the screen igniting her irises into sparks of gold. The visual was so reminiscent of a much more innocent day when his puppy-love crush left him hopelessly bewitched, watching her bright eyes during a class movie, that Andrew choked on his saliva in surprise. The coughing attracted Amanda's attention. He smiled smally waving off her concern. His heart sank as she returned to watching the presentation unaware of the spell-trap he was steadily building around her.
This or death. Continuing to watch Amanda with sidelong glances, Andrew broke the button on his coat sleeve. Immediately Bright white words burned across his vision. The room was too quiet to recite them aloud, instead he had been instructed to mouth the words and tap the table once for every syllable.
In the movies soul-binding spells had to be recited in unison. Mr. Buckner's mage had proudly insisted with his greasy smile that this variation on the spell would work regardless. This or death, Andrew reminded himself. Death was why he hadn't questioned the nameless mage with yellow teeth and thin lips. Lying lips.
Agitated, Andrew allowed his fingers to strike the table too loud. Amanda huffed out in irritation at what she assumed was his impatience, but her peripheral vision caught the movement of his mouth. Amanda burst into motion, the flowy fabric of her robes exaggerating the effect. He wasn't sure what exactly she was doing, but he kept reciting. This or death...
Snapping her fingers, Amanda jumped out of her chair. Her fire eyes scanning the chair and floor. Doubtless she was seeing how the spell-trap was written out beneath her. Doubtless she knew what awful curse Andrew was inflicting upon her. Andrew closed his eyes continuing to recite the words that scrolled across his eyelids. This had become death.
Urgent fingers secured his face and jerked his head forward. Amanda's other find peeled open one of his eyes. Her features were surprisingly calm, but the imagined electricity had materialized, skittering through her hair and across her skin. Where she held him, it felt like small bee stings. Andrew opened his eyes, weakly batting her hand away from his delicate sockets. She let the hand fall. Her vision firmly locked on his eyes, scanning for something.
Reading something! Reading the incantation from within his eyes, Amanda began reciting with him. Andrew paused gulping in surprise. He had never thought Amanda would chose him. The words paused for him as well, but Amanda had continued quickly spewing out lines. In latin?
The lights had also come back up. Andrew checked the room to see the crowd watching him, but Amanda yanked his face forward again.
"Keep reading" She barked.
P.S. So mages have the option to bind their souls (aka soul mates) via a very complicated spell, and Mr. Buckner's mage figured out how to bind someone's soul to you without consent.
