Thoughts on Hobby Lobby decision?
Really, really, really fucking mad.
I'm not a constitutional lawyer and this is not my strong suit, but I have a lot of trouble understanding how they can allow a corporation to hold religious beliefs, aka giving them the rights of a human being. John Oliver gave a really great explanation last night and I very much agree with him. Corporations can't pick and choose the rights that they want to have, while ignoring or pushing aside things that conflict. If we are going to allow them to hold religious beliefs, where will that end? Why should it stop with birth control? What's stopping corporations from discriminating against people for their sexuality, based on their religion??? There are ALL KINDS OF CRAZY RELIGIONS, so why don't they get an equal opportunity to fuck over their employees? What if they believe in only hiring white people? What are you going to do then????
I'm fucking furious and the truth is, I don't think I'd be half as mad if I truly believed that this case had been created on solid religious grounds. I think that this is either religious extremism at a fanatical level or a financially based attempt to deny women health care, and it's disgusting. It limits the job market for women. It opens up a precedent for all kinds of bullshit laws in the future. Supreme Court really fucking let us down on this one.
