The trees swayed back and forth, their branches creaking and groaning as the cool night wind blew against them. Jack’s expression was unreadable while he perched on a thick branch, his blue eyes cast downward and staring at a familiar figure below.

It had been months since he had last seen her. Her disappearance happened shortly after the Guardian’s warm invitation at the Pole, and there was no trace of her left behind to follow. Finding her now of all times just from happenstance of being in the right place at the right time, “surprised” would be an understatement of how Jack was currently feeling.

After a few minutes of silence he stood up, hopping off the branch with a small gust of wind and landing a few feet behind her. His lips pressed into a firm line and he hesitated to speak. This might’ve been the only chance he’d get to see her, and what if she just ran away again right after he spoke?

He shook his head and brushed those thoughts away. It was pretty much now or never to try and get an answer. “Willow,” he called, his voice low but soft.
