🕯 was there a fic that was really hard on you to write, or took you to a place you didn't think it would?
Mmmmm honestly not really? At least in the way this question is implying I think. I do draw from personal experience when writing certain things, being queer and having various mental and physical health struggles, not to mention not a particularly happy and lucky life, I use things I've gone through a lot as inspiration, but it's never exactly Got To Me or made the writing experience harder. I've always been very comfortable writing difficult topics, and it's the kind of writing I usually find the most mentally stimulating actually.
Part of why I like writing dead dove is how it can range from being a realistic approach to trauma and a serious look at parts of the human pysche only exposed by Bad Things Happening™, to taking an obviously unrealistic and either artistic or just plain entertaining view of serious concepts that can be viewed by a reader in a safe and nonjudgemental environment, and in my opinion you have to be good at the former to truly make the latter work the way it should.
To absolutely reorient the last part of the question to somewhere it definitely wasn't intended, I did have an experience with my first fic that was very unexpected, where it made me reexamine my gender and some beliefs about myself, and it absolutely floored me to see it doing the same for some of my readers.
💋 when you leave comments in a fic, do you want to hear back from the writer?
Ironically I LOVE when my comments turn into an actual interaction with the writer, even though I myself almost never reply to comments. The community aspect of fanfic can be so lovely, and interacting directly between the reader and writer is a big part of that. I think writers should definitely never be pressured to respond to comments, especially since sometimes there can be an overwhelming amount to come up with genuine responses to each one, but every time I get a reply I feel so special 😂 that's honestly part of why I DONT reply to comments usually, because I am A, shy. And B, definitely don't have the spoons to always reply to every comment and I'd feel bad for leaving people out.
FOR THE RECORD I read every comment I get, the nice ones usually several times, and absolutely cherish hearing how my fics are touching people and how much they are being enjoyed.
And as of late I've enjoyed officially deciding I don't give a fuck and telling rude commenters to sit and spin 😂
