I always know we’re in for an enthralling treat when new Cruel Youth surfaces. While the duo had stayed silent for much of the year, these last two months have brought us two unexpected new treats from the project helmed by Teddy Sinclair (aka Natalia Kills) and her husband Willy Moon. Last month, they gave us dusty charred Devil In Paradise, and now they’ve followed it up with Portrait Of A Female, a tambourine jangling vintage pop song with a sweet 60s lilt to its rhythmic jaunt and plenty of those signature whiskey-drenched Cruel Youth vocals. Portrait Of A Female is Amy Winehouse gone Cults. In other words, we’re in love. SO in love. Here’s to hoping that these two new tunes are a precursor to much more Cruel Youth to come in 2019.
