Any thoughts on why Sandor kept threatening her (even though no harm was done later). For threatening someone like her, taking into account what she means to him, if it is true he wouldn't hurt her, how he allows himself that kind of threats? Maybe a part of him would (at least at the present moment)? Same the death scene with Arya, were he talks about he better had f- her before Tyrion. (even if it's just to make Arya angry, or within her POV). Thanks a lot for your answers! (last Q, I swear :)
"Words are wind", as is so often stated in this series. ;-) Sandor likes to talk, loves him some masculine posturing, he probably considers threatening her his version of peacocking, LOL. It's also probably a defense mechanism against his feelings for her. Whenever Sandor Clegane starts having those vulnerable stirrings, up pops The Hound to beat that shit back down where it belongs. ;-P And it works vice-versa -- whenever the Hound gets a little too out of hand, Sandor Clegane steps in and pumps the brakes on that nonsense. Like I said, he would never forgive himself if he actually hurt her. You can bet that was the primary reason why he broke down in tears after she sang to him -- he suddenly came to his senses and realized what he had done (or nearly had), and that, mixed with the tenderness she was showing him, was so overwhelming that he just had to get the fuck out of there... Leaving behind his Kingsguard cloak, tearing it from his shoulders because he had defiled it and everything it was supposed to stand for by having threatened the life of the one person on the entire planet he gave a damn about and promised to protect.
As for his statement to Arya, what he's basically saying is "I should have fucked her and then killed her because she would have been better off dead than marrying the Imp." I do think he started talking about Sansa in order to piss Arya off, but it evolved into something waaayyyy deeper. He's expressing his regret for having left her to such an awful fate as marrying Tyrion. Remember, (1) though it's never specifically stated in the text, Sandor had to have known about all that shit that went down with Tysha, so he had a pre-conceived notion about what happens to women who marry Tyrion Lannister; and (2) the Mountain's men at the Inn told him that Sansa had disappeared after Joffrey was killed, so her fate is unknown to him at this point. Anything could have happened to her, and he probably assumes the worst, especially if Tyrion is involved. He hates himself for many things in regards to Sansa, but above all he hates himself for leaving her -- he may think he might have been able to do something to save her if he had stayed in King's Landing. What that would be is anyone's guess, LOL.
(Incidentally, Sansa seems to share this sentiment... after everything that went down between them during the BoBW -- real and imaginary -- the one thing she seems most bitter about is the fact that he left her behind.)
No worries about the questions, do feel free to ask anything you like, it actually helps me organize my own thoughts about stuff! ;-)
