First strip is done, since I see no reason to take the scales the whole way to my neck when the breastplate will never come off. ;P Actually, it might be a bit too long, since I’m…well…short. lol 113 scales, 226 rings. Fewer than expected! Going to pick up fabric for stitch testing…some time…eventually…soon.

Recommendation when working with chainmail rings: Do not use cheap jewelry crafting pliers; they aren't strong enough. Do not work in a plush recliner unless you want to lose half your materials in the cushions. *proceeds to continue doing both, having lost the good pliers and being unwilling to move*

So, my scales arrived today, and they do look lovely. Unfortunately, among all my chainmail supplies, I do not have the right size rings to put them together. I should have checked before buying the scales... *headdesk*

Ordered 200 scales to test them for this armor. God. I'm really going to do this, aren't I? ...help.

And with this, Kai is finished! A week before Otakon, even. This is the first year, bringing a new cosplay to con, in which I won't be frantically scrambling around at the last minute, desperate to get those last few pieces together. All in all, I'm pretty damn pleased with how it turned out. Tomorrow evening I'll do a test run, put the whole thing on, and get a few pictures while it's all still in one piece. Really hoping I can get through con without destroying this mask, but even just getting it to come together in the first place... Well, I'm a very happy cosplayer. ^___^

And finally the coat is completely pained. Now it just needs to dry for another 24 hours and be heat cured, and it will be done!
