Me: Okay Company PC I just found out our printer is misbehaving, I fixed the ink not squirting issue, but apparently I can only print in letter size?
Windows 10: Oh, I found a brand new driver that works better for this printer.
Me: Because of this we have support tickets thinking that the printer has gone defective. They are pending sending a replacement.
Windows 10: Well, the previous driver wasn't secure.
Me: It fucking worked. *Tries to install the proper driver*
Windows 10: Hmmm this driver seems out of date, at a later time I might need to update it for your security...
Me: *Fetches a newer version of the driver.* How about this?
Windows 10: This will work until my discontinue date. Which reminds me, this PC is not Windows 11 compatible, you will news to upgrade your hardware.
Me: You are a virus, windows...
Adding -vgui to the commandline of steam gives you the pre-update UI, it is far friendlier on system resource but the underlying engine is still shit but at least the Win3 grinding to a halt is in shorter bursts.
Also, steam announced a full axing of Win7 support starting Jan 1st, 2024. To my fellow Win7 refugees, I strongly suggest switching to Linux. You will even see improved game performance over 7 with Proton.
Evidence for this is an Intel GMA on a pre-iCore Intel T4400 that struggled with Unreal Gold at 640x480 under a butchered 7 was able to comfortably run at 800x600 on Proton 3, Fedora 35, XFCE with no Desktop Composition.
May the acquisition of Activision slowly and painfully rot Microsoft from the inside out.
