Wind-powered cargo ship sets sail in a move to make shipping greener | CNN

A Cargill-chartered cargo ship fitted with giant, steel sails has set out on its maiden voyage.

These sails will save about the ship about 30% on fuel.

A few tried-and-tested generations down the line, we could see fully automated and fully renewable shipping. More reasons for optimism, that we can have nice things and it can all be sustainable.

I’ve been thinking about how it’s kind of a worst case scenario solarpunk future--one in which it takes humanity nearly destroying itself before it adopts lifestyles that are more human- and environmentally-oriented. Seems like top to bottom wind power is over 2 x as economical as fossil fuels, or even solar!

Wind power is here economically, the green revolution has begun for individual home economics, but politicians drag their heels as deeply as their fossil fuel bribery and corruption will allow, meanwhile in the real world in 2023 people can buy wind generators that pay for themselves in months not years, with no need for subsidy, rebate, or credits to justify this payback.... Insanely good economics on wind these days in any US state or country.

Anyone responsible for paying an electric bill and who owns their roof can benefit financially from this news today...
