You altered my point. I said the point they are making is not about the patriarchy. The fact that they are all white males is because of the patriarchy, but the patriarchy has nothing to do with the point they are making. They are famous people, mostly comedians, speaking out against a serious matter. The reason they are famous has to do with the patriarchy favoring white males but the point they make has nothing to do with it. Please stop altering my points in order to make yourself seem right.

except yes, their point still IS about the patriarchy--they are men speaking to other men, who perpetuate the most sexual assault, usually against women. it's great that they realize they have the power to raise awareness, but the fact of the matter is they're still putting it in a context that "it's happening to the people you love, your sisters and your daughters", which yes may put it in a perspective, but the perspective is their relationship to /men/. it still comes off as sounding like women who aren't those people aren't important, like women who don't have family members to protect them

But you're kind of missing the point. The reason this PSA has to exist is because people don't care. People don't care because this whole mentality of "Oh but it could never happen to me or anyone I care about". And they're trying to get the point across that yeah it can and it probably will unless we do something about it. It's not even remotely related to the patriarchy because it's not exclusively about men. It's about everyone being collectively ignorant on the matter.

Hey yo, as opposed to most I'm gonna say a thing about what you said on that PSA post. The whole "They're our sisters and daughters" things has nothing to do with ownership. It's to show that the women this happens to are not just random girls out there. It's people you care about and people other people care about. It's not about ownership, it's about people you're close to. Plus I'm pretty sure not just men have sisters and daughters.

but why shouldn't we just protect "random girls"???? it should be enough that she's a person with her own personhood instead of having to put it in terms like "OH BUT SHE'S SOMEONES DAUGHTER" it's fucking stupid and say what you want but i've never heard that phrase said in a context where they weren't addressing men

women have worth regardless of what their relationship COULD be to people

and i'm not saying that that makes the video less important??? i think it's great that male actors are speaking out against rape culture and sexual assault, i just think that it IS a kind of patriarchal value that they basically end up saying "don't sexually assault people because they are xyz to some people"
