3/50 project

Lori:  So Mary, Have you started your Christmas shopping yet?

Mary: I really want to get unique gifts this year for my family.  I am thinking I need to head downtown and take a closer peak at their store.  Where do you like to find unique gifts?

Lori:   As usual, great minds think alike.  I'm going to commit to shopping local this Christmas.  Are you familiar with the '3/50 Project'?

Mary:   I have heard about it...but not familiar with the details.  

Lori:   3/50 Project initiative is to save the brick and mortar businesses that our nation is built on.  They say that each person should think of three businesses that they would miss if they disappeared tomorrow and to go spend $50 at each of those three businesses.   Which three businesses would you miss in your area?

Mary:  One that I would miss would be K & W Shirts here in Windsor. In fact, I have already put in my order at K & W.  They are making all my close friends and their kids unique shirts. Next time our 'posse' goes out we will be able to tell which ten kids are ours (and so we don't pick up extras).

Lori: LOL!  Mary's Brady Bunch!  I'm getting you an "Alice" for Christmas!  As usual, I'm getting off track here.

Mary: I am going to get myself a gift at my second business and have a customized facial at Looks Medical Aesthetics in Loveland, CO.  My mantra is, "if momma isn't happy during the holidays...Santa definitely is not"! 

Mary:  I pretty certain my kids won't look at it as a 'gift', but I am getting my kids and husband a gift of health at my third business. We are all getting all our flu shots before we get on a plane to MN at Mallory Family Wellness!

Lori:  Those are all great ideas, but I especially like getting a gift for yourself.  I'm going to The Hair Team  for an eyebrow wax.  My motto is, " A Very HAIRY Christmas, doesn't make for a Very Merry Christmas".

Lori:  I'm also thinking a gift basket from Coffee Choices would fit the bill for some of the people on my list.  I know I loved the one that you gave me last year.  Susan did a phenomenal job.  What about the hubby?  Any ideas for him?

Mary:  What about a detail package from Hawkins Chevrolet in Fairmont?  

Lori:  That is a great idea! If a new truck isn't in the budget, a detail package would be great!

Mary:   Exactly!  You just helped me figure out my husbands gift too!   

Lori:   I hope you mean the detailing, not the wax appointment!

Mary:  You will never know!

Lori:  Wow!  Look how easy it is to come up with three LOCAL businesses to shop at. So, we know we both do better when we commit to something.  What are you willing to commit to to, "Keep the Cheer Here"?

Mary:  What do you mean "Keep the Cheer Here"?

Lori:   On 3/50 Project.net, they had a cute poster for the holidays that reads, "Keep the Cheer Here".  Meaning, shop locally for the holidays.   I'm going to commit to purchase gifts for at least three people on my list within a 50 mile radius of my home.  A new twist on the 3/50 Project.

Mary:  That is great!  Ditto!  I remember when we grew up...we never went to large department stores to buy our items.  We need that same attitude today!
