honestly im the biggest trash for soulmate aus, whether they're colour ones or sentences on bodies. timer ones are also great!! i just love soulmates tbh

John and Dave had been friends since they were around 11 years old. Neither one of them saw in color upon meeting, though. So obviously they knew they weren’t supposed to be together. 

Time passed, and they grew older. All of their friends were meeting their soulmates, but they were still alone. 

When they turned around 22 or so, John was starting to develop feelings for Dave, even though he knew that they weren’t soulmates. Little did he know that Dave had felt this way since they were about 17, but saw it pointless to act on it. 

The two moved on with their lives, got an apartment in the city together, and made friends with the guys that worked at the bar Dave DJ’d at. They had this crazy party one night, and both John and Dave ended up super drunk and sleeping together. 

The next morning, Dave woke up seeing colors. He saw John’s dark hair and his sleeping body on Dave’s black silk sheets. John was his fucking soulmate. Holy shit. 

He shook the other awake, and John was pissed off until he realized that Dave had blond hair and striking red eyes. He asked Dave if he was seeing what he thought he was seeing. They were seeing color. They were meant to be together, all that time.

John and Dave dated from the time they were 16 to when they were 21 in a long distance relationship. They met up during every break. But that wasn’t enough for Dave. He wanted more. He wanted someone he could be with every day. So he broke up with John. It was the worst mistake of his life. 

Years later, Dave became a movie producer in Hollywood, California. He was working on a movie that featured a long-distance relationship. That’s what inspired him to try to talk to John again. He managed to find the other’s contact information, but John wouldn’t answer for him. No texts, no calls, no voicemails. Dave kept trying him, but John would never answer. 

One day, Dave called from a different number. John answered that one. Dave immediately jumped in and apologized for the way he acted and for breaking John’s heart. John just shrugged him off and said it was fine. It was a long time ago. He had moved on. But Dave never really moved on. Dave asked John if he wanted to meet up sometime. John agreed.

As they hung out more and more, John resisted the urge to jump into something with him because he really didn’t want to get hurt. He didn’t want to jump into a relationship just because Dave showed an interest in him. He wanted to take it slow. 

But eventually, John did give in. He didn’t want to take it slow anymore. He put himself out there, fully expecting to be hurt. But Dave never hurt him.

When they got out of college, they got an apartment together while John went through grad school. They were so incredibly in love. But eventually, things started to drift. Dave loved John as much as he did on the first day. But John was waivering. Eventually, he broke it off with Dave because he just wasn’t in love with the same Dave anymore. Dave took it really hard, and he begged John not to leave. But he knew John had already been gone. Dave said he would do anything, absolutely anything if John would stay. He would change. He could be a better man. But John just wasn’t interested anymore. John left him sobbing on the kitchen floor.

All the late nights talking in bed, all the crazy sleepovers and video game challenges, all the shared thoughts and secrets. They both fell hard without the other noticing. Neither had expected to be in that position. John had a girlfriend, still trying to find himself, and Dave had a girlfriend as a cover. But the more they realized their feelings, the more complicated things got. People started to notice. Finally, they both just thought fuck reputations. Dave made the first move. John made the next. And it was suddenly clear to both of them. They were both flaming homos for each other.

After the game, no one’s guardians came back. But Bro left everything to Dave. So he took John, and they left. They left their childhood homes. They left all of the painful memories behind and traveled the world together right after the funeral they held for their guardians. They left as friends but ended up as boyfriends.
