We have been to quite a few vineyards over the years, but hardly did we ever come across a small scale winemaker like James who managed to bring so much passion and taste to the table 🍷🍶 From growing and production to fermentation and ageing. Never have we been so educated 📚 We particularly enjoyed the @alphaexcelsior 2018 Shiraz and 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon. Nevermind the excellent olives from their Orchard. #winemaker #winemakers #clanwilliam #cederberg #farmstead #homestead #farmhousestyle #farmlife #redwinelover #cabernet #shirazlover #shiraz #cabernetsauvignon #westerncapewines #winelands #winetastings #winetasting #smallbusiness #smallbusinessowner #smallscalefarming #westerncapetourism #cederbergtourism (at Alpha Excelsior Farm) https://www.instagram.com/p/CqSeD1Ps8c_/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
Cape Town's Winelands stretches just behind Table Mountain in the oldest wine growing regions in South Africa. The wine routes continue to Stellenbosch, Franschhoek, Wellington and Paarl. It is a beautiful landscape with green, fertile valleys, pine and oak forests. There are many picturesque sleepy places and up to 1500m high rugged mountain formations with breathtaking pass roads. Here is the origin of Cape Dutch architecture and there are very beautiful wineries that almost all offer wine tasting and guided tours.

Mid-year break in Cape Town
Well if summer in Cape Town is for swimming and soaking up the sun – then winter is definitely for wines and cosying up near a fireplace.
Temperatures are usually quite mild for winter in the mother city except for when it's raining, then it's usually freezing. The Cape receives rain in winter which makes it a winter rainfall area. Winter weather is pleasant when sunny, temperatures are around 18 and 20 degrees Celsius. The best time is around May and August. The city comes alive, it’s scenery turns green – the freshness and lushness of the landscape make for nature hiking and visits to many parks and gardens.
One notable would be the Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden. Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden is acclaimed as one of the great botanic gardens of the world. Few gardens can match the sheer grandeur of the setting of Kirstenbosch, against the eastern slopes of Cape Town’s Table Mountain.
Winter is also a perfect time to visit Cape Town, not only because it’s off season – there are lots of winter specials, from flights, hotels, restaurants and tour operators, but also there’s a lot of activities to do.
The cape wines are highly acclaimed and sought after award-winning wines. Wine tasting is a must do activity. The Franschhoek vineyards are a definite must – Babylonstoren is a quaint and beautiful place, their winery is world class. They have a mix of old world charm with a touch of ultra modern sophistication, case in point their ”glass boxed” tasting room overlooking one of the various vineyards.
Also worth mentioning is that Franschhoek is teeming with world-renowned farm to table restaurants.
Cape Town boasts pristine beaches – making for peaceful walks and watching the sunset before dining at one of the top restaurantTreat yourself to Cape Town this winter and experience the grandeur and utter beauty of this gem!
Timeouts || For most that probably means the space that toddlers occasionally find themselves for a variety of reasons, and lets face it, sometimes adults need it too. But that is not THIS timeout. This is the one we often neglect. The time set aside to switch off from technology, commitments, obligations and just take a breath. Listen to music or read a book, even take a nap or go for a stroll. We know it’s important and it recharges the batteries, but we seldom make time for a timeout for ourselves. This weekend I decided to take few minutes to do just that - to sit outside, enjoy the great weather we’re having and catch up on some reading that I’ve been neglecting. Short-lived as it may have been, it felt darn good and gave me just the timeout I needed to fully recharge my battery. The weekends are becoming busier as the weather warms up, and in a few weeks I’m looking forward to the @pink_polo_sa with my favorite person in the world @pierre_pressure 🐎💕 . . . Do you take time for timeouts? What’s your way of recharging? . . . . . . #timeout #weekend #weekendfeels #Sunday #spring #relax #unwind #brilmynou #mybril #hellobril #geel #yellow #polo #winelands #localislekker #glasses #instacapetown #capetown #capetownlife #capetownetc https://www.instagram.com/p/Bo9uvCKF74v/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1p2nk8rjsvwwq
Today we visit Jordan, a winery and restaurant in the winelands outside Stellenbosch. That means lots and lots of pictures of vineyards. Hope you don’t mind. It’s winter, so you shouldn’t get drunk on the heady smells of grapes ripening on the vine.
