Haven’t posted in a minute - holidays blew through hot and fast. Winter weather is finally hitting Hawaii with crispy cold mornings. Dropped 232–>221lbs and stuck.
Been lowkey on ig since nonutnovember and contemplating on deleting it. I doom scroll it for memes and don’t get the same dopamine hits lately.
Spent some time whipping up a new shirt but I don’t feel like pressing it. Helped out the wing sing homies with blessing a new lion.
Been feeling like I’m stuck in a rut with a slow spiral. Needing a cleanse from life. Idk.
What’s new with you?
Late post catch up;
Chinese new year popped up so fast I was barely ready for it.
A close friend had established Hawaii’s first DOE lion dance program, WingSing lion dance association, waialua intermediate & high school. I was able to help him with his equipment/new lion blessing he held for his students. I’m excited for his program to grow. Perpetuating culture to the youth is the end goal. Sharing history and lessons is part of why we do lion dancing.
The boys at SingYung lion dance had me help them with blessing one of their new lions which was an honor and cool thing to be apart of. Brothers in another color fr fr.
Then the squad Wah Ngai handled the Chinatown new year festivities with no problems. Wasn’t much help this year and stuck at work most of the time.
Ben: The Peep Tempel are a rock ‘n roll band from Melbourne, Australia and they do not like Trevor.
Taylor: They sound jealous of Trevor.
Um. This song is fucking great. Courtesy Scott.
This is the way to start a Friday morning. Also the way to start a Friday night. I'll let the soundcloud description do all the work: "No better time than now to celebrate dumb Australia. Morally disassociated, reality TV style politics. $7 chips at the footy. The great Australian dream, a 35 year mortgage on a home that will be in the advanced stages of dilapidation in just 25. We could go on. The Peep Tempel’s album Tales is modern Oz and a collection of its inhabitants, brought to life with lowbrow sarcasm, loud guitars and generous sprinkle of cheese. From the band: “we wanted the record to have an element of ick”, the band explain, “to make you smile, but not without leaving a film across your teeth. It’s misogynistic, voyeuristic, racist, bigoted, over financed, drunk in Bali, pissing in it’s own mouth, boat stopping mayhem!” Enjoy with a tinnie and a smoke. 💛 DJ Slymewave
Wing Sing, 1125 Stockton St., San Francisco, CA 94133
Like many Chinatown shops, Wing Sing looks somewhat run down and it’s crammed with prepared food. There’s usually a line of people waiting to order something: take out dim sum, steamed buns, baked buns, a hot bar with prepared dishes (rice, noodles, etc.). The food is really cheap. You can spend $5 and get quite a bit of food, enough for a meal.
* Rice rolls ($1.75): The steamed rice noodle rolls were very thick – which is unusual but they were still smooth, fresh and tasty. They were filled with crunchy chopped water chestnuts, dried shrimp, fatty cha su, scallions – similar to what you’d find in a dumpling. These were good rolls and a delicious snack.
Cash only.
