If y'all have specific questions about some aspect of American life, I know there's TONS of Americans who'd be thrilled to answer your questions. :)
WHAT THE HELL IS A CAUCUS¿? *angry emoji*
No, but in all seriousness :P I think the problem is not so much that we find no one to ask, but rather that we are not even aware what we’re supposed to be asking in the first place¿? Like, usually it’s cultural stuff so basic and simple, that you wouldn’t even imagine that it’s different in other places¿? Because why would it be¿? It’s like the most basic stuff about day to day life¿?
For example, I’ve been living in the UK for over two and a half years, and only last week did I find out that here there are different charities that provide official ID recognised by police, but other than passport apparently it’s not compulsory to have one, and you can choose which organisation you get it from¿?(I think¿? I’m not even sure I understood that right) When in Spain passport is optional, but the official centralised police issued ID is compulsory for every citizen over 14 years old, and it’s considered a crime not to have it, and it can ONLY be acquired by going to the police, there aren’t any different companies or organisations providing it.
And idk, it’s the kind of thing I wouldn’t even think about because it’s so¿?¿??¿¿? I don’t even know, like¿??¿?¿?¿ It’s just a lot easier to simply not get into that sort of detail when you’re writing, to be purposefuly vague about any social process or whatever in your writing because cultures around the world are so mind boggingly different that you can’t even be aware of everything that anyone native to that culture would notice is out of place¿?
I’m not at all eloquent right now, but I think it’s a thing of not even knowing that what you’re writing about that culture is inaccurate, and having no idea of how to even begin to find out¿? If that makes sense¿?
I’m making my head hurt so I’m gonna stop now :P
