Wingdings has a savior complex for everyone around him because he took on the role of caretaker at a young age for Sans and Papyrus. This developed further due to the adults in the void trapped because of him, and now he has this savior complex.
He hates being called a child, but he still has fears like the dark, which are remnants of his childhood. He started taking care of his brothers in his teens, and some of that childlike innocence has mixed with his current fears. It frustrates him that people want to call him a child now, especially when they once expected him to act like an adult and grow up quickly.
They wanted him to take on responsibilities that were heavy for someone his age, and now they want to label him as a child? After everything he's been through while raising Papyrus and Sans? He loathes that he still fears the dark and has these "childish" fears because he thought that by growing up fast, he would “grow out of” those worries.
He is just a skeleton traumatized by war who had to raise his baby brothers. There was a time he hated science because he had to learn it significantly faster than others his age, just to become a royal scientist and support himself and his brothers.
He had to grow up fast to make it all happen, and it annoys him that these childish fears have stayed with him when he believes he has clearly grown up. How stupid is that?
