How to make wings for cosplay!
Okay, this is slightly copied off of a Flandre Scarlett cosplay help forum, but 98% of the idea is original.
You will need:
PVC pipes
An oven/outside stove/firepit
Cold water
A hammer
Spray paint
Drill
LED christmas lights (for effects)
Battery pack(s)
EXTRAS FOR CERTIAN CHARACTERS:
Angel (BL2): Clear, shapeable plastic of some sort. Preferably sheet-like.
Okay, so take the PVC pipes and stick them in the oven/firepit/outside stove for 15 minute intervals. Using heat-resistant gloves or oven mits, take them out and test the flexibility. If it's difficult to bend the pipe, stick it back in for another 15 minutes. Do this until the pipe is easy to bend, but not melted. (Warning: It will stink.) Using the hammer (or someone with strength), tap the pipes into your desired shape and then use it to tap the shape smooth. If it cools, stick it back in the heat for another 15 minutes and continue until finished.
After this, stick the molded wing in for 10 minutes, then dip the pipe into cold water to set it.
Using a measuring tool of some sort, measure out the spacing between the LEDs. Then, drill holes in the pipes according to your measurements or markings that you may have made.
Next, spray paint the pipes whatever colour you need OUTSIDE. NEVER DO THIS INSIDE. The fumes can be toxic! Wear a breathing mask as well! Then, hang the pipes somewhere to dry, and g over with a clear coat of spraypaint.
Next, string the lights through the holes. Not going to lie, this is a very hard thing to do. Screw around with methods of making it easier and tell me what worked, because I had to suffer. Dx
Have someone with basic electrician skills wire the LEDs to your battery pack. Any battery can be used. I reccomend AAAs, or Ds. Higher voltage = brighter lights.
To attach the wings, I used an old percussion harness donated by the school for my project. Since these are expensive, I don't reccomend using them. They are also bulky, and might ruin the cosplay.
For forming Angel's wings, take clear, sheet-like plastic and essentially just cut out whatever you need, and lightly coat in white spray paint with a layer of black-light coating or glow in the dark coating.(GITD) GITD is cool for when your battery pack runs out and you're in the dark ;p
For Angel's tattoos, I reccomend Ben Nye body paint and any GITD/blacklight clear coating over it. I find that when you use a blacklight, THEN a GITD coating, it's super bright. You'll look like a true Siren.
SOME raver websites sell super-vivid contact lenses that are for one time use. I will not endorse these websites, because the contacts are SUPER uncomfortable, irritating, and overall unpleasant.
I hope this helps! I can elaborate further if needed. Any questions, just email me. [email protected]
