Uncovered history: The OverWing's Pupils
As her castle villagers were cleaning and tending to her sky palace, one of them had found an old scroll written in ancient enchantment text. After bringing this item to attention, OverWing went ahead and translated the words on the scroll onto a new scroll, and preserved the original in a glass case in her hidden library. This is what it said.
I am writing this, an explanation, because after today, the generations of deciples that the OverWing had cursed will end with me. My parents are busy distracting the OverWing in her throne room.
For generations, of up to 300 years, The OverWing has kept generations of us in her castle. Skybounds, Oceanbounds, and EarthBounds alike. But apparently it wasn't always like this. We used to live amongst the OverWing. Not beneath her.
At first, the Pupils were just bounds going around the world, spreading the word of the OverWing's elegance, power, and strength. It started out as a small family of EarthBounds, but eventually grew into a loyal following from all bounds. Of up to more than a hundred, I was told.
One day, the OverWing graced the followers. Admired by their devotion, she offered them a place in her palace, big enough for all of them. To learn from her, learn about the past, and carry on that knowledge to their future generations. It was an offer they didn't refuse.
For generations, they wrote many of the important parts of history, even before she created the Bounds. But the deciples would even create. From statues, to paintings, to even creating songs and poems of her. They were allowed to leave her palace so long as they didn't tell others where it was. They were allowed to continue spreading the word to other bounds across the overworld. But... thats when things started going wrong.
The OverWing eventually found out that some of her deciples were using their position for power over others. Demanding riches, respect, power, using the threat of the OverWing to get what they wanted.
The OverWing was furious, exclaiming her disappointment and anger very clearly. It must have really upset her, because the following day, all deciples were summoned into the thrown room. As punishment and for the foreseeable future, she had created a unique enchanting called "The Pupil". A simple mark with an everlasting curse. She burned the mark onto our hands, making sure that wherever we went, she would always see through our eyes whenever she so pleased.
She then refused to allow us out of the palace. Some tried to escape. EarthBounds and OceanBounds would try water clutching. Those that failed died from the fall. Those that managed to survive were killed by the OverWing anyways for insubordination.
Skybounds suffered the worst of it. The OverWing would clip our wings so we wouldn't be able to fly away.
For generations, The Pupils would continue the same work our ancestors did aside from spreading the word of the OverWing. History was written, statues were still made, paintings were created. Not out of admiration, but of fear.
Children would gain The Pupil enchantment at 13. Skybounds would get the mark and would get their wings clipped when their wings were fully developed. It was generations of fear.
I am supposed to get my wings clipped today. But I don't have a mark because I was an early bloomer. Mother and father want me to escape. To fly away before the OverWing notices. They won't be able to follow.
the end of The Pupils. The suffering ends with me and my freedom.
A redrawn copy of what Phyria had drawn to show the sigil of The Pupil. (The OverWing didn't feel like being creative at the time)
