Oh yup, we're spelling it out! Amity was going to invite Someone to Grom, but was afraid of being rejected.

I wonder, does the piece she picked up herself have the name on it?

Just. Imagine being Amity in this episode. You want to invite your crush to Grom enough that you write her a whole letter about it. But you're afraid she'll say no - or worse, be so offended by the offer that she tears your letter to shreds. You decide not to give it to her.

Then you run into her and she picks up your letter that was supposed to be for her while helping you retrieve your belongings. And then you get picked as Grom Queen. And you know your anxiety about getting rejected is going to be on full display in front of the entire school, including your crush.

But not to worry! Your crush offers to take your place as Grom Queen so you won't have to face your fear (of getting rejected by her). She's even being a little chivalrous about it. You contemplate giving her the letter again. You decide not to.

Then, during the fight, she gets hit with her own deepest anxieties and is so shaken she flees the arena, essentially forfeiting the battle. You come to the conclusion that living out your fear of being rejected by her would be less upsetting than seeing her in this much distress, so you leap to her rescue. And thus, your fear of being rejected by your crush plays out directly in front of your crush.

Your crush then picks up the letter you wrote for her and observes that you were afraid of being rejected.

She does not seem to realise whose rejection it was that you were afraid of.

She offers to go to Grom with you.

Y'know. As a friend.

Amity!!!

I am so very happy to see her openly sticking up for Willow and putting her foot down with Boscha & friends. She gave Willow her word she would, after all!

I will admit the 'used to be' is sending me since it's been, what. A couple of months at most?? But it's also a very Amity way to express it - as though she was fully in control of the process instead of the whole. uhh. everything that's happened so far.

And at the same time, I like that she doesn't try to draw a line between her past self and Boscha - even if there may have been differences in their motivations, she was acting very similarly to Boscha in early episodes.

I think it speaks to how self-aware Amity is that she's able to make that comparison and recognise this behaviour as specifically stemming from immaturity. Asking Boscha when she's going to grow up is a sick burn, but also doubles as acknowledgement that Boscha, too, has the potential to be better if she tries.

...she's gotta want to, though.

Amity's had to put up with Star Captain(tm) Boscha for quite a while as well, huh...

It's perhaps not on the same level as the bullying, but pretending to be on board with All That when you really couldn't care less probably qualifies as its own form of torment.

Ahh, I see Willow, too, is a Good Witch Azura connoisseur. Makes sense, since I can't imagine Luz not sharing her specialest interest with her friends as soon as she possibly could. (If the series is old enough, it's possible Willow got into it through Amity, but that seems less likely to me.)

How... normal is this for a school sports team? Though, I guess it's not clear yet if non-school-based Grudgby teams exist; if this is the equivalent of, say, a regional professional sports team in this world, then the fanfare is understandable.

I fear that the lettering on that poster in the background might be a little too unclear to make out, but I might page back through my rune posts between sessions to see if I can't figure it out anyways.

I have to say, it's very Eda to have a cheat box that is not only explicitly labeled "RAD CHEATZ" but also has Eda's own name plastered on it just so that if anyone came across it, they'd have no doubts about who it belonged to.
