I have several AJK canon divergence au ideas, though i'm not sure if i'll end up writing them. Inconfidence and nobody interacting is kind of motivation-damaging (there's no living fandom except me and one guy who's commented on my english fics at least this far), and i've also been writing my oneshots in finnish first because i'm out of practice writing stories in my native language. Most of the potential audience would be reading in english.....

Johan, Anna, and Alfred's siblings don't get hit by K. Rokodil's car because Johan slips while climbing up the ditch in the rain. Then we explore what Alfred's siblings are like and what they do when they get older, how them being alive affects the later events etc. I'm not sure if Alfred would still go to school in Polderstadt though, since he just went there because Henk's house was outside the city. Would he still meet Ollie, Pikkie, Snel, Hannes, Wannes, and Dolf? How do I deal with six new characters who never had any traits, personality or otherwise, in canon?

Alfred actually does join the circus in episode 11, and leaves Waterland. They travel all over the world and probably meet the Wana family (maybe they stow away on the circus train?). Then they return to Waterland a year or two later, only to find it under Dolf's rule or Dolf being about to gain power.....*

Instead of a fascist takeover, there's a communist uprising in/after episode 21, because the people are mad as hell about the newly crowned king Frans' incompetence and the financial crisis, and they only get madder when they learn that Frans is straight-up stealing citizens' money and scamming charity funds. Alfred and Ollie are somehow involved. Things then go to shit because the royal army actually fights back (unlike in canon where it did nothing about Dolf...), a bunch of random people do not actually know how to run a country, and the revolutionaries descend into accusing and executing each other and innocent citizens for supposed ideological impurities.

The weird plan to depose the NCP in episode 25 doesn't work, and Dolf attacks Reedland to get more money and power, starting a world war. Alfred, Ollie, Henk, and the others become resistance fighters, Waterland's government in exile flees to Aurora, Reedland's king is captured by the NCP, and things only get worse from there. Alfred meets Winnie at some point somehow, and after Dolf's Waterland loses the world war we move to a Cold War situation between Sparrowland and whatever the USA analogue is, with the post-war Waterland and the heroes and their children caught in the middle.

*Well, that was the backstory of my AU oneshot Dirty Maple, the reason Alfred is separated from other canon characters and doesn't know where Henk is, but I don't think I properly indicated that in the fic. Also it's not like I wrote about the circus itself. I'm already writing about this but I don't know where I'm going with it.
