I asked lucas just now to write a little note about the winter pasture we set up for our goats this year, but he says his mind is somewhere in the middle of the tax code and depreciating values. So, that leaves me. This is our third winter on the farm. Orion, Fern & Gertrude lived in the chicken coop our first winter. Last winter they went back and forth from the barn basement to the lean-to without running water on the other side of the farm. This year. This year they are queens of the farm. The sheep are now living it up on Long Island making greek yogurt, so the goats have full run of the place. They get fed grain in the lower lean-to and hay in the upper lean-to. They choose to sleep in the barn when they feel like it. Normally on the particularly cold and windy nights or in a big storm. The lean-to's face south though, so much sunbathing, cud chewing, and napping ensues in those locales. Elvis has a snow covered manure pile throne and Rain plays hide and seek amongst the ever so quickly (way too quickly) disappearing bales of hay. We will never fool ourselves again into thinking the does will eat first cut hay. We are however trying to soak in ever last minute of sleepy snowy solitude before kidding throws all systems into high gear. Everything will be pulsingly alive so very soon.
