He couldn’t say he was expecting the sudden burst of affection. Truthfully, after too long around Felix, he didn’t expect any kind of affection from a Fraldarius. He grinned lazily at Gwenn, holding his arms behind his head.

“What did I do to deserve that?” he asked. “It’s not every day that a cute girl flirts with me, first.” He couldn’t shake the feeling that this conversation would somehow end with her sword impaling him. Or perhaps he really was too used to Felix and was comparing him and his sister far too much. It wasn’t fair of him, but it was what he had grown used to.

It's been five years.

Five years changes a lot. In that time, half the kingdom became empire territory. Rowe, too, fell to the empire, forcing Ashe to stand down from his position as a knight there. Though he wanders for a couple of years, eventually he remembers the promise that he and his class made. Just like that, he’s back at Garreg Mach. So much has changed. The monastery is falling apart, and it’ll take time to rebuild it.

All of his old friends have changed. Mercedes has cut her hair short, Dimitri’s in a state, and...

And then there’s Felix.

The years had certainly been kind to him. He was always attractive, but something about him is different. He is like a sharpened sword, cold as steel yet so much more beautiful. Ashe is left staring blankly at him for a few moments as he takes in the sight of his old friend. Oh heavens, he’s actually staring. Ashe shakes himself.

“Ah- I’m sorry,” he says with a light laugh. “It’s been a while. I don’t mean to stare.”

( @winter-sword ) !! "You talk in your sleep," Felix mused, though he'd only woken a bit before Ashe and was still sleepy himself. Red eyes only half open, deep blue hair spilling down his back and over his shoulders. All pale, scarred skin, wiry limbs, and secret soft places. Entirely vulnerable, and entirely comfortable in bed with Ashe. "It's cute." [ unprompted ; always open ]

Ashe rubbed his eyes as he woke up. Felix was beside him. Had he been watching Ashe sleep? He didn’t want to ask. He blinked as the world around him began to make sense. Slowly, his mind was catching up.

“Ah, I’m sorry. I hope it doesn’t bother you.” Felix had called it cute, but that didn’t ease Ashe. He offered Felix a sleepy smile. “Did I say anything important?” It was likely thoughts about his family, if anything: he dreamt about them a lot. Both the good and the bad. He was always a sleep talker: his brother called it soothing, while his sister called it annoying.

so for Ashe/lix

so Ashe is marrying into Fraldarius, right? then that means, unfortunately for both of them, big wedding. they’re both quite uh. you know. nervous. though in not-AM routes i’d imagine it’d be settling in Gaspard instead, so tiny wedding bc no money

Ashe is constantly panicking. he’ll wake up at 3am like AAAAAAAA FELIX DID WE GET THE FLOWERS DID WE SEND THE INVITES??? yes Ashe. go the hell to sleep.

as for the wedding, if he senses Felix is getting overwhelmed, he’ll find a quiet spot for him to stay, and make an excuse to the guests if they notice. all he cares about is Felix’s comfort

they’ll have a first dance probably, but. oh no. no no no. Ashe can’t dance. RIP Felix’s feet and all the decorations. he’ll then make an excuse and die outside. he tried to learn, really, he did, but. lol

he does end up upset on the days leading up to it. not just stress, but because his birth parents, Lonato and Christophe won’t be there. his sibs will be there, but still. also a part of him is so so terrified of marrying Felix, because what if he loses him too? what if Felix loses Gwenn because of him? what if? 🥺

(bonus: Ashe’s sibs. the youngest, his brother, would be scared of Felix. the middle child, his sister, would have mixed feelings about him. on the one hand, he’s her brother in law. on the other, he’s too much like Delphine. considering her weird feelings on Delphine, she simply claims she doesn’t like him

Coco and Gwenn

Coco WILL plan it all. no one else will gets their mitts on her wedding plans. no!! ... okay, except Gwenn, but that’s different. that’s her future wife!

she does get a bit Bridezilla-ish. but it’s Constance. if she isn’t extra, is she really alive? every detail will be perfect!! so help her!!

it’s extravagant. it’s loud. it’s beautiful. it’s only on the day that Constance can relax and see, yeah, this is perfect. she’s done it - with Gwenn’s help

she um. she passes out relatively quickly. she accidentally spent so many sleepless night planning this pls be nice

on that note? it’s a nighttime wedding. not a chance of that pesky sunlight ruining their day, no way!

“Simple,” he said as he followed her lead, walking with her. “You keep trying to fight me.”

Yuri was holding back. Not out of pity - not necessarily - but the last thing he wanted to do was to hurt Gwenn. A hurt soldier was a useless soldier in this dead-end war. “You know you’ll never win, but you keep going. You’re a funny one.”

It all felt so very final.

Tomorrow, they would be storming Enbarr. Tomorrow, this war could finally end. How many soldiers would be lost? How many lives? It was a terrifying prospect, and Ashe would be lying if he said he wasn't nervous. Not for himself, really, but for everyone around him. He didn't want to lose anyone, but it felt inevitable. This war had always been inevitable.

He couldn't sleep. Guilt and anxiety and anger were too much to bear. Instead, he was out, wandering the monastery. He wasn't alone. He exchanged knowing looks and nods at the people he walked by, but he didn't stop to talk. No one wanted that: the point of war should not be driven home.

He wasn't surprised to see Felix out and about either, and he smiled at him, but decided against speaking to him, much like the others. Emotions were hard, even for the more emotional types like Ashe. He wanted to leave Felix alone, but Felix had other plans.

He came over with such determination that Ashe thought Felix might have stabbed him. He couldn't help but stagger back - nothing could have prepared him for what was going to happen. He had prepared an apology in his head for whatever Felix wanted from him, but that wasn't what he wanted at all.

Instead, he found Felix's lips against his own. Ashe yelped in surprise, but it wasn't unpleasant. Far from it. His mind had frozen. Felix was kissing him. He should have kissed back! His body did not respond, and even when it was over, it took a minute for him to process what had happened.

"Felix, I-" Ashe swallowed. "Can I ask why you did that?" He didn't want to get his hopes up if Felix didn't feel the same. Maybe he didn't. Maybe he wanted to try something before they died. Was it even a good time for this conversation?

Probably not, but Ashe would always be a hopeless romantic. And he had to know.

“Oh! My, isn’t this a pleasant surprise?” She reads the note. A woman of refined taste? G.F? Hm. Well, she has her assumptions on who her ‘admirer’ could be, but she can’t be too sure. Why would Gwenn send her flowers? She appreciates the gesture all the same.
