i read your tags on my pacific rim post and i totally agree with you :) i didn't want to talk about that in my post because it wasn't the issue i wanted to talk about, but that's one of my problems with people who REFUSE to see mako and raleigh romantically. it's also happening in the sleepy hollow fandom with abbie (who is a black woman) and ichabod, where a good part of the fandom says "they don't have the chemistry to be a couple and should just stay friends".

yes your post was A+++ i liked it a lot and just saw the opportunity to write those tags to expand on the stuff you were already saying. (i hope it didn't come across as though i was directly addressing you)

i was actually just thinking of ichabod and abbie, too. vehemently denying any chemistry between these types of characters because of a fear that it will reduce the female character to a “mere” love interest is misguided. more people need to consider how poor the representation is for WOC to be shown in healthy relationships where they are not exotic prizes for the white male heroes. feminism needs to be intersectional, etc.
