Happy Wednesday everyone!! Welcome back to another thrilling edition of WITCHy Wednesday. I wanted to talk about holidays. Now. I am something of a “high holiday witch” I celebrate equinoxes and the solstices. The winter solstice is December 22, only 18 days away! It is also known as the longest night because afterwards, the days start getting longer as we move towards spring. It is also the kick off of Yuletide, which lasts until January 2. It is a strange, liminal time, where you don’t know what day of the week it is, or why you’re still eating and if you have to work - work feels strangely out of place and against nature. It is one of my favourite times of year because I love giving presents and baking and being cozy. Like, I live in pyjamas and drink lots of hot chocolate and cider that I make in my slow cooker(s). I have 2 full-sized ones and a mini. Traditionally, I stay awake all night, watching my favourite holiday movies and baking, so I can greet the sun and celebrate it’s return. I have a beautiful, giant pillar candle that I light at sunrise and let it burn all day. I give gifts to my fellow witches to open on the solstice and open gifts from them. It is like a quieter, more intimate Christmas. What are some of your traditions?
