I'm sending in a bunch of these wintery asks, and it's mainly because I want winter to be here ASAP (I never have liked the heat/humidity where I live), and I like cuteness. Winter brings cuteness out (people snuggle to stay warm, blankets are everywhere, people get festively plump, sappy music plays all the time, good cheer is prominent, etc.). I tend to gravitate to Christmas episodes of TV shows and read books set in the cold.

Cozy Winter Asks Person, you are the best. I am going to write this story. I just can't write it today because if I did, I think I would imagine myself into a heat-induced coma.

But like, a romantic, winter-y, atmospheric, mountain town, rinkside snogging story? Hell yeah, let's do that.

Maybe they get snowed in somewhere? Thinking.

Snowflakes - what’s your least favourite genre of books or movies?

Hmm, I don’t really care for horror or anything with a lot of mystery. I like having a little bit of mystery mixed into the plot, but I don’t really care when that’s all I is. I also don’t really care for much historical fiction. It’s fine if it’s added in delicately and is just part of the story, but I just can’t watch or read anything that’s solely focused on history.

Icicle - do you prefer living in small towns or big cities?

Uhm, well I’ve never really lived in a big city, so I don’t know if I’d actually enjoy it. I don’t care for living in a small town mainly because there’s just not a lot to do. So I think I’d be happiest if I could live like on the outskirts of a city or the quieter side of it. I don’t necessarily want to be right in the center of everything, but I don’t want to be far from people either.

Blizzard - what era of fashion would you bring back, if you had the choice?

I don’t know! I’ve always really liked the 90s, early 2000s fashion but it hasn’t necessarily died out yet. I do like 60s/70s fashion so maybe I’d bring that back? I also would LOVE to be able to wear nice/“formal” dresses everyday like royalty (or like in bridgerton)! I’m not really sure what era that is but I just love the idea of wearing nice, pretty formal dresses everyday.

frost- which historical figure fascinates you and why?

probably frida kahlo. she has a really interesting life story and she's one of the mexican women that i know to be queer so that's vv exciting. plus her artwork is really cool!

blizzard - what era of fashion would you bring back, if you had the choice?

Oooh, that’s a tough one, because my dream style is a dramatic mismatch of varying eras. 

Maybe the 20s? I’ve always been a big fan of the drop-waist, asymmetrical skirt sheath dresses of that era. And tailored suits.

hoodie - how different was your life five years ago?

Wildly different. 

Lets see: 5 years ago I would have been a junior in college. 

So biggest difference was I didn’t plan at that point to go to law school. I didn’t want to be a lawyer. I thought I was going to work in an office somewhere as a paralegal or HR or something similar, maybe for some sort of activist organization (which living up in VT I had some solid options) and was content with that as a concept. I thought it was going to be me and my best friend getting an apartment in the city, and maybe someday a dog, and settling there in the frozen north. 

I worked part time at a call center. The most exciting day of my week was 1/2 priced movies on Thursday nights at the local theater. I had pretty much given up writing as “a thing I used to do as a kid” (at least partially because I didn’t think I was any good).

I literally cannot imagine still being that version of me. To the point where it’s hard to think of the differences because it just feels like the answer to “what was different?” is “Everything.”

cinnamon - do you like your name? Would you change it if you could?

I...don’t know. 

I go through stages where I wish I had a different name or where I feel like my name doesn’t fit who I am. But I also can’t truly imagine being called anything else. 

Part of why I started going by my “faire name”/nickname was because I like it better than my birth name, because I picked it. It was suggested by others in the group but at the end of the day Shye is mine by choice. (I also just liked having a nickname for once because my actual name doesn’t really lend itself to shortening.)

cranberry - do you consider yourself to be a risk taker, or more cautious?

I think I’m cautious. But also I’ve made a lot of major life decisions on...not quite an impulse but kinda. Definitely without necessarily considering the consequences/pros and cons. I’m cautious/hesitant to make decisions or take actions, but once I do it’s a bit of a “fuck it let’s just go for it” attitude. 

That’s not really an answer to the question is it?

I consider myself cautious. But other people might not.

fruitcake - imagine you’re the only person left on Earth. What do you do?

Cry. Get scared. Generally freak out. I’m not sure what else there is to do. 

I mean for a while I’ll be able to amuse myself with books and tv (assuming this is an apocalypse scenario that did not destroy the power/internet/etc) but I don’t think I’ll last long with it.

No. I think that in order to actually be in love with someone, you have to know them. 

shiver - what’s your typical go-to fast food restaurant?

I love a good KFC $5 box. Or Dunkin Donuts. Depends on whether I’m looking for actual food, or coffee and carbs.
