WIP Blankets update 2/27/22

Here we go again! I haven’t been doing tons of work on blankets lately; I made a sweater a few weeks ago that took up a lot of time, in addition to the granny square quilt taking about FIVE MILLION times as long as I expected it to 😂 But I have made SOME progress, so I figured I’d do a little baby update here.

Not pictured: Granny Stripe and Scrap Triangle Quilt, because I haven’t been working on them, and Leftover C2C because it’s on pause until I have more leftover yarn to add into it.

Granny Square Quilt

Ahhh this blanket is finally almost finished!!! It’s kind of hard to see here, but while all of the squares are connected in columns, I’m still working on attaching them in rows. I also have to weave the ends in, but I really am getting close. It somehow took me under two years to make this blanket, in addition to making a whopping 14 others and making progress on another 5, plus making about a million amigurumi, a bralette, hats, scarves, AND a sweater. That’s not too bad, if you ask me!

Leftover Armonika Blanket

I wasn’t going to post this blanket again until I had finished the skein of Cherries Jubilee, but then I changed my mind 😅 It’s really coming out a lot prettier than I expected. I hope I still like it as much once I get into the next colorway, Rainbow Jellies!

2022 Mood Blanket

I’m currently very far behind on this blanket, between working on my sweater and the granny square quilt; I think I was about 11 rows behind when I took this photo, and I did another five or six later that night, but I’m still almost a week behind. What I have discovered is that this blanket makes a great project to work on during virtual D&D sessions, meaning that those are a good time to catch up on it 😂

WIP blanket update 11/17/21

Wow! It’s been way too long since I posted… well, anything on this blog, really. I went back to work in June and was crazy busy then (although I did manage to finish my Floral Beauty Throw) and things just got more insane. Unfortunately, in early October I had to leave my job due to a variety of reasons, and I’m still currently looking for work. (In a related note, if anyone is looking for some fun, unique Christmas presents, I’m currently having a sale in my Etsy shop!) However, I’ve finally been able to get back into working on projects, so here’s a blanket update!

Not pictured: Floral Beauty Throw, because I finished it, and Granny Stripe, because I haven’t been working on it.

Raised Squared Waffle

This blanket is coming a little out of nowhere, as the last time I talked about it, it was in my “coming soon” post. I started this blanket after going back to work, because I wanted a simple, single-piece project that I didn’t have to put a ton of thought into, and, once I got a hang of the pattern, this blanket was perfect for that! I’ve really enjoyed working on it, and could definitely see myself making another in the future. It’s my closest blanket to completion at the moment—as of this photo, I have just finished skein #7 out of 9-10. It’s a pretty good size already, somewhere close to 5x5, but I love me a giant blanket, so I’m going to keep working on it for a little while longer!

I really love the texture on this blanket. Since the pattern is worked with a lot of FPDCs, it makes it super squishy and heavy, which I love. I’m using Caron Chunky Cakes in Bumbleberry and a size L hook for this blanket.

(p.s. sorry for such a blurry photo, my cat was running around and scared me, and I didn’t realize the photo was so blurry until I had put the blanket away and started working on this post.)

Granny Square Quilt

It’s back!!! This blanket hasn’t shown up in an update since March 3, but, now that I’m starting to wrap up most of my other Caron Chunky Cakes projects, I’m getting back to working on this one. I’m almost at 200 squares in this photo—the 160 in the tissue boxes are 100% complete, meaning the ends are woven in and everything, while the 31 laid out in front still need their ends woven in. I’m not looking forward to doing that; throughout the process of this blanket, I’ve been trying to weave in ends after making every 10-15 squares or so, but I didn’t realize how many I had done, so I haven’t gotten around to doing so lately. Oh well! It could be worse, I guess.

On the bright side, I should have pretty much exactly enough yarn to finish this blanket. I wasn’t sure if I was going to use the leftover Rainbow Jellies from my Ten-Stitch blanket with the rest of the colors, but I’ve made a few squares out of some of that yarn (i.e. the dark green and yellow squares pictured above) and I’m very happy with how the colors work with the rest of the colorways, so I’m going to continue using that rainbow yarn with the rest.

For this blanket, I’m using a US size L hook and bulky weight yarn.

Total squares: 191/270

Scrap Granny Triangle Quilt

This blanket has grown considerably since my last update, and I’m really happy with how it’s working up! This was my go-to work project, as it was easy to transport, so I was able to get a lot of pieces done while I was working. There’s more red and less blue than I was expecting to have here (mostly just because I haven’t really used much of the blue yarn I have for this blanket yet, and I found an extra skein of red yarn to throw into the pile that I wound up using first) but I’m still happy with the colors so far!!! I’ve also decided to make the blanket a little smaller than I was initially planning, in the hopes of being able to avoid having to buy yarn for it, so it hopefully won’t take me too much longer to make as I’m actually over halfway done already! Unfortunately, I haven’t been weaving my ends as I go on these pieces… Maybe I’m just going to have to sit down and take a day to weave in ends on these triangles and my granny squares 😂

For this blanket, I’m using worsted weight yarn (or multiple strands held together to make a similar weight) and a US size H hook.

Total triangles: 64*/121 (*I found two squares that had fallen out of the basket I’m storing them in after I took this photo, so my total is slightly off from the count in the photo!)

Armonika Blanket

If you’ve been following this blog for… pretty much any length of time, you’ve probably seen me talk about my first-ever blanket, my giant rainbow blanket, which used a scarf pattern from Ravelry but added in extra repeats to make it into a blanket. You can find all that info in this post. After I cast off my Ten-Stitch Blanket, I decided I wanted another knit blanket to work on when I felt like knitting, and, since it’s been a while, I decided to make another of these blankets! I really love this pattern, and I’ve really been enjoying working on it again. Like so many of my other blankets, this one is using Caron Chunky Cakes yarn, and, like my Granny Square Quilt, it is using leftovers from other blankets. So far, I’ve used one skein of Blue Moon, and the next colorway I’ll be using is Sweet & Sour, from my Granny Rectangle blanket. After that, I’ll be using Cherries Jubilee (Pickup Lines Afghan), Ballet Sorbet (C2C #1, although this yarn was specifically purchased for this blanket, as I have already used my leftover Ballet Sorbet to make granny squares), and at least one skein of Bumbleberry (Raised Squared Waffle, pictured above) but possibly more, depending how much, if any, is leftover from the waffle blanket. I’m also considering purchasing a cake in a different color that I haven’t actually used for a blanket, such as Rice Pudding, Plum Perfect, or Blueberry Pudding (although those last two are currently completely unavailable, sadly), as I think I’m going to need 6 skeins to make this a good-sized blanket, not just 5. I’m really excited for the finished product, though, and I think it’ll be really pretty once it’s finished! Plus, it’ll match most of my other blankets, since it’s using the same yarn 😅

For this blanket, I’m using US size 13 needles and bulky weight yarn.

Corner-to-corner

Just as I’ve been making leftover blankets with my Caron Chunky Cakes yarn, it looks like I’ll be doing the same with my Caron Cakes yarn. So far, the only Caron Cakes yarn I’ve used is Rainbow Sprinkle (from my Floral Beauty Throw), but I have plans for a few others coming in the middle future, once I finish up a few more of my WIPs and start the scrap ripple blanket that is the final blanket on my “coming soon” post. Also, I just really wanted to make another c2c. It’s such a fun pattern!!!

For this blanket, I’m using worsted weight yarn and a US size I hook.

WIP blanket update 01/25/22

Happy new year, everyone!!! It’s my first post of 2022, and I’m so excited to share it!!! I haven’t posted a WIP update in about 2.5 months, so I’m so excited to share this update!!! It’s been a crazy few months; I started a new job at the end of November, and am also working part time at a local theatre—I’m currently costume designing my first professional theatrical production, which is literally insane!!!—but I’ve still been knitting and crocheting plenty!

Not pictured: Raised Squared Waffle, because I finished it; Scrap Triangle Quilt, because I haven’t been working on it; Leftover C2C because it’s on pause until I have more leftover yarn to add into it!

Granny Square Quilt

I literally cannot believe how close I am to finally finishing this blanket!!! It feels like I’ve been working on it for forever, even though it hasn’t even been two years yet—I only started this blanket around May of 2020. I’m hoping to finish it up in the next week or two, as I’m so close!!! I’ve actually made a few more squares since I took this picture, so I’m even closer than I was when I took this photo!!!

Armonika Blanket

I’m pleasantly surprised with how this blanket is working up, if I’m completely honest. I wasn’t entirely sure how I’d like the Cherries Jubilee next to the Sweet and Sour, but I really like how they look next to each other! I have, however, decided that instead of going into Ballet Sorbet after the Cherries Jubilee, I’m going to go into Rainbow Jellies (from my Ten-Stitch blanket), then into Bumbleberry (Raised Squared Waffle), and ending with Ballet Sorbet. Overall, I really love it! It’s super squishy, thanks to the combination of knit and purl stitches, and the pattern has just enough going on to keep me interested without being too complicated! It’s also been a while since I’ve done much knitting, so it’s been really nice to get into that again!

Granny Stripe

It’s been a while since this blanket has popped up, and I admittedly haven’t been working very much on it lately. I think I’ve only done about a skein in a half, maybe two skeins, more of work since the last time I brought out this blanket, and it’s so wide you can barely tell that I’ve done any more work on it 😅 My goal at this point is to work on it as my go-to project about one week out of every month (more if I feel like it) and maybe try to finish it by the end of the year (unlikely, but I’m optimistic!!!)

Finally, we have a new addition to the roundup!!! I decided very last minute (a.k.a. on January 9th) to do a mood blanket for 2022, but I was too lazy and indecisive to decide on a color chart for the whole thing ahead of time. Instead, at the end of each day, I pick a color that feels appropriate to sum up my mood for the day, and do a row in that. That means there’s not much of a key, but pinks and yellows are good days, blues are good or neutral, greens and greys are neutral, and reds and oranges and browns are bad days. I’m doing rows of single crochets for Sunday-Friday, and a row including puff stitches for Saturdays. I did a chain of 200 (I meant to do 201, but miscounted) with a size I hook, and the puff stitch rows are *SC5, puff stitch* along until the last six stitches, which are all SCs. If I were to redo it/make another blanket like this, I’d chain 201 and SC6, puff stitch, then *SC5, puff stitch* along until the last six stitches, and SC those. I’m pretty proud that, so far, I’ve actually managed to keep up with this blanket! I’ve gotten behind a few days here and there, but always caught up within about three days. I really don’t want to get too far behind, because that seems like it would make it harder to find the right colors per day, so I’m really making an effort to keep up with it!

At this point, I’m not weaving in my ends, and instead leaving them as a fringe on each side that I’ll even out when the whole thing is finished. I have until the end of the month to change my mind and weave them in instead, but after January they’re staying as a fringe 😂 I’m using a size I hook and worsted weight yarn (primarily Loops & Threads Impeccable, with a few others thrown in; I will not be including a list), but I’ve also done a few rows with yarn held double to bring in sparkly yarn as another fun element.

WIP blanket update 6/05/21*

*The information in this post is outdated because I typed the whole thing up, saved it to my drafts to add links… and promptly forgot to do so 😅 I’ve actually finished the ten-stitch by now, and done work on a few others as well, including my Granny Square Quilt!

Hey, y’all! It’s been about two and a half months since I did a blanket update, but I’ve been doing a lot of work on some of them lately, trying to get as much done on the ten-stitch and granny stripe specifically before I go back to work in a week! My goal is to finish the ten-stitch before the 13th of June, but… we’ll see 😅 The reason I’ve been focusing so much on those two blankets specifically is because they’re not so transportable, so, while I am able to bring projects to work with me and work on them during breaks and downtime, I can’t exactly transport an entire, massive “worked in one piece” blanket like the ten-stitch or granny stripe with me. But smaller quilt-style or pieced afghans are a lot easier to transport, because I can throw a few balls/skeins/etc of yarn into my bag for the day and make a few pieces if I have time! Thankfully, 3/5 of the blankets on my to-make list ATM are pieced blankets—you can check out my “coming soon” blanket post to see what some of those are, but two of them are also introduced in this post!

Not pictured: Granny Square Quilt, because it’s still currently on pause, although I plan to start working on it again once I go back to work; Mitered Granny and Tilt-a-Whirl because I’ve finished them both! Stay tuned for individual posts about those two FOs!

Ten-Stitch (Knit)

As of these photos, I was about halfway through this blanket—I was around halfway through cake four, and I’m planning to use eight cakes total and then use the ninth to just finish up whatever edge I run out of the eighth cake on so that I don’t have a weird chunk missing out of it! Since I took these photos about a week ago (I’ve really been procrastinating on writing this post oops—) I’ve finished the fourth cake and have only a little left of the fifth cake! So, even if I don’t finish the blanket by 6/13 like I’d like to, I should be close and can hopefully get it done before work gets crazy again. As you can see, though, my little furry lady seems to like this blanket already! She used to sleep on it a lot before I had to move all my work back up into my room when my brother moved back into the basement, so I’m sure she’s looking forward to being able to sleep on it again when it’s finished!

Floral Beauty Throw

The last time I talked about this blanket, it was in my “coming soon” post. I decided to make a few test squares before starting the blanket itself, because I wasn’t sure if I wanted to use a US H or I size hook, so I made two squares with each size. The two on the left are with the H hook, and the two on the right are with the I hook. As you can see, there isn’t really much difference between them 😂 I plan to block them (the yarn has a wool content, so I’m going to have to soak rather than steam block, which makes me a little sad because steam blocking is so much easier) to make sure, but at this point I’m planning to use the I hook, and, if I can block all four to be close enough in size, I’ll probably just include the two H hook squares in the final afghan.

On the bright side, I won’t have tons of ends to weave in for this blanket, since the yarn is self-striping!

Total pieces: 4/30 (although I may do more squares depending on how my yarn gets used)

Granny Stripe Blanket

It may not look like it, but I’ve actually done a ton of work on this blanket recently! In my last WIP post, I had about 38 rows done—as of these photos, I have about 60 done! It’s officially gotten too long to double over for photos, and the width of it makes it really difficult to take top-down photos, so it’s hard to get good pictures of, but I really love how it’s turning out so far! I also love how the color pooling has been sort of bouncing from side to side the further I go! I can’t wait to see how it turns out!

Scrap Granny Triangle Quilt

I wasn’t planning on starting this blanket just yet—it’s going to be a good one for taking back to work—but I hit a point recently where I didn’t want to work on any of my WIPs so I decided to start this instead 😅 I’m really happy with how it’s going so far! I’m using scrap and leftover yarn for the triangles, and plan to do some mixing of textures in it. You can already see a bit of that here, as I’ve used some bits of fuzzy yarn, as well as some Caron Simply Soft scraps that have different textures than the worsted yarns I’ll be using for the majority of the blanket. I already know that I’ll have to pick up a few skeins to supplement my scraps, so I think I’m going to look for more of the turquoise/grey/white variegated yarn from those two triangles at the top left, as well as some different shades of purple and blue, keeping the red for more accent triangles rather than making it a main color of the blanket. There are a few things kind of bumming me out about this blanket, though—namely that I’m going to need a lot more triangles than I realized to make the blanket as big as I’d like to… and that it looks like I’m going to have to block every. single. triangle…

I’ve also tweaked the pattern slightly (check my coming soon post to see the photo pattern I’m using for reference) because I wasn’t able to neatly work the corners the way the pattern indicated they should be work, so you can see where my rows are joined in the middle of the triangle sides. I don’t mind this too much, though, and I think once the ends are woven in, and the whole thing is pieced together, they’ll be much less noticeable. Hopefully.
