Veritophobia by Claire Ochieng
These days,
I've been throwing up
words with the ash you spit
down my throat
and I keep rearranging
the mess,
trying
to find something
worth saying to you
but it all sounds like
"take me, I'm yours"
and I can't say that
because you'd look at me,
shake your head
"oh darling,
I don't
love
you
didn't you know?"
春日庭中漫步有感赋诗一首赠禹欣同学
梅花亭畔柳曛晨,微雨清风颔早春。
他岁桃花相映日,笑颦犹是当年人。
When I should be walking,
In a fairy garden spot,
Where the water was ever shiny
And the flowers ever smile.
The willows’ floating leaves looked so shy,
That they even blocked the sight of sky.
A little fall of rain,
A little blow of wind,
They were singing, indeed,
For the gentle early spring,
Among all the blossoming flowers,
There was one that attracted me most,
Where the weather was heavenly fine,
I saw thee, the lover of mine!
That day thy smile shineth with the sun,
All I wished was that,
At the end of my day,
I can still feel thy face,
Where smiles never fade.

Distraught by Claire Ochieng
The forest is calming; The trees and the breeze and the leaves put me at ease.
The sun is determined to find us all. In between the oak branches, I see the golden rays.
Overwhelmed by the humidity, I sit motionless in the grass. “Let it go, this too shall pass.”
The forest is hypnotising; The trees and the breeze and the leaves make me dizzy.
The sun pursues us all. In between the oak branches, I am stabbed with the golden rays.
Suffocating from the humidity, I sit passed out in the grass. “Let it go, this too shall pass.”
A Suburban Anthem by Claire Ochieng
In the suburbs with the houses and trees,
You were sitting amongst the grass and leaves
I was sitting amongst the flowers and bees,
hoping one day to be infinitely free
We were trapped behind our white picket fences and grievances, unable to progress
There was nothing for us in the suburbs and we were forever depressed.
So you got the keys, I got the gun, and we drove away-- Living in the suburbs, your choices are to kill yourself, or stay.
