10 + your favorite bad kids relationship (romantic or platonic, up to you!)
this prompt was so cute! it felt right to do this one with fig & adaine, since the first piece of d20 fic i ever wrote was for a fig & adaine zine in 2024 :)
Impromptu Fashion Show
words: 1,125
summary: Adaine's been wearing similar outfits for most of her time at Aguefort, and it usually didn't bother her. When she faces a small bout of insecurity, she takes a brief tour of Fig's closet to try and find something to make her look cooler.
relationship: fig & adaine
prompt: "why are you wearing my skirt?"
ao3 link || request a prompt!
It all started with a comment Fabian made one day.
"Adaine, I think I've seen you wear that jacket every day since you got it."
He didn't mean anything by it, but of course he was right. And the jacket itself was magical, it made perfect sense why she chose to wear it all the time. But still, days after the words left Fabian's mouth (and probably his memory), Adaine found herself thinking about them.
Her closet wasn't very big, and it just then dawned on her that it was full of mostly the same items in different colors. A few dresses in a style she didn't consider hers anymore, a nice pair of dress pants, and a couple miscellaneous items here and there made an appearance, but she mostly wore the same few pairs of jeans and t-shirts day in and day out. Somehow, she had ditched the school "uniform" her parents had made her wear for a another uniform, though the new style was significantly more comfortable.
And no one else probably paid any attention to it (hell, why was she even paying attention now?) but Adaine couldn't shake the desire to reinvent herself. A new look wouldn't fix her problems, but she could feel cool for a little while.
Shopping was out of the question unfortunately. She was barely scraping by with enough gold pieces to keep up with the demand her classes put forward, she couldn't really justify spending any money on clothes she didn't need right now. But that didn't mean she stopped thinking about the different styles she might want to try if she got the chance to completely change her look.
And those thoughts took control of her brain one day, when she was the only one home. Mordred Manor was usually bright with activity; there was pretty much always someone cooking or doing something that brought light and laughter to the house. But today was a rare occasion. Adaine hadn't even seen Zayn (who was technically bound to the property), and an idea popped into her head that she never would have considered a few weeks ago.
Sneaking into Fig's room was easy, and was it technically sneaking to just walk through the halls of your own home? But stepping into your friend's bedroom when you technically weren't invited was, and Adaine almost turned around and sprinted back to the tower. But in a moment of bravery (or maybe it was just the strength of her desire), she kept moving forward.
Fig's closet wasn't that much bigger than Adaine's, but her clothes were completely different. The fact that she still had some money coming in from her music meant that Fig sometimes went out and bought new things, and it helped that her classes didn't seem to have the same monetary demand that Adaine's did. There were so many things here that Adaine didn't think she had the confidence to even try on just yet, but Fig's clothes did satisfy some of the urge she had to try something new.
She gently took a pair of jeans off the hangar, with rips in the knees much larger than anything Adaine had worn before. It was the smallest step forward, one notch above the style she had spent most of her high school career in. But still, trying them on made her feel cooler in a way she couldn't quite explain (or justify, if she was trying to think logically).
She folded up her jacket of many things and traded it for a leather one next, and immediately, her eyes lit up as she looked at herself in the mirror. This version of Adaine was just cooler, that was the truth. So when her eyes moved over a small group of miniskirts and a few sets of neatly folded fishnet tights, she actually took a bigger leap forward and tried them on.
Hopefully Fig wouldn't be too mad if she found her in h-
"Adaine? What are you doing in here?"
Fuck.
There was an expression of pure embarrassment on Adaine's face as she stepped out of the closet and stared at Fig, like a kid who had gotten caught with his hand in the cookie jar. And right as she opened her mouth to profusely apologize for the intrusion, Fig spoke again. "Why are you wearing my skirt?"
Adaine heaved a sigh before speaking. "I wanted to feel cool," she said, her voice so much quieter than it usually was. "I'm sorry."
Much to her surprise, a grin spread over Fig's face. "Well, you definitely look it," she said, taking a few steps forward to grab Adaine's hand and pull her deeper into the closet. "But I think I have a top that would look better with that skirt, and some shoes for you too."
Stunned, it took Adaine a few moments to register what Fig was doing. If this had been Aelwyn, she would probably have been sprinting back to her bedroom now, even if they had been mending their relationship recently. "Wait, what?"
"You want to borrow some of my clothes, right?" Fig said, seemingly just as confused as Adaine. "I'll help you pick something out."
"You're not mad at me for breaking into your closet?"
"What? Of course not! You look so cool right now, even if I was I wouldn't be able to hold onto it for long."
Adaine tried to keep her expression neutral, but she couldn't stop the smile from forming on her lips. "Oh."
Fig smiled too. "I do have one question though."
"Anything."
"What inspired the want to change? I think you look pretty cool with the denim jacket."
Adaine looked down, a soft blush dusting her cheeks. "It was just something Fabian said, about the fact that I've worn the jacket every day since I got it," she said. "It got into my head, and then I was worried that I didn't look as cool as I thought I did."
"Well you absolutely do look cool, so you never need to worry about that," Fig said. "But it's still fun to try something different every once in a while, so I get it." She reached into the sea of clothes and pulled out a black and red tank top. "Here, try this on with the skirt, and let me grab you the boots I think you should wear."
She gratefully accepted the offerings, and Fig waited patiently on her bed as Adaine changed. It took a few seconds for her to gather the courage to open the door, but when she finally did, Fig's face lit up.
"How do I look?" Adaine asked.
"Awesome."
And when she turned around to look in the mirror, Adaine had to agree.
the reveals for the @d20s-fanfic-masquerade have taken place, and the fics i wrote have finally come home to my ao3!
broken, beaten, damned || marmila || 3 chapters, 5.3k words
The Empress of Ruin didn't always possess an iron fist.
But her story was always marked for tragedy, her rise foretold in a way that made fate inescapable.
Musings of a Seed Guy || liam-centric || 6 chapters, 600 words || ongoing
A collection of moments in Liam Wilhelmina's life.
New Home || kristen & gorgug || 1.9k words
Gilear's apartment is a crowded place, and Kristen accepts the Thistlespring's offer to come stay in their guest room.
Overconfidence In Spades || wind riders || 2.1k words
Deemed "too good" at heists, the Wind Riders decide to try something different this time around.
Watchful Eyes || junkvan || 6 chapters, 3.6k words
Five times Marya and Van's stolen glances went unnoticed, and one time they didn't.
i had originally planned to post a big list at the end of @d20bingobattle with links to all my fics together (and i definitely will still do that), but i think this fic getting its own post is thematically appropriate to my url 😂
another round of the @d20s-fanfic-masquerade is now complete, and my fics for the event have now come home to my ao3!! here's a list of them:
sort by: most helpful || aso || gunner channel gen
gunner channel smash and grab reviews!! this fic was so much fun even if i did have to teach myself html and css and figure out ao3 work skins, something i have avoided in the entire decade i'd been on ao3 😂 the hovering text over the anonymous usernames is probably my favorite part of the formatting!
i guess we never really moved on || fh:jy || trackerbees
this was the first fic i wrote for the event!! love the idea of focusing on tracker's thoughts about that phone call with kristen in junior year and i actually committed to writing in (my nemesis) present tense :)
ulterior motives || cloho || canon divergence au
shout out to a tumblr post i saw while cloho was airing that i can't find anymore, but it put forth a theory about comfrey wanting to lure the wind riders to ramansu to swap bodies with olethra and continue the mission. i have been wanting to write something that delves into that theory forever, and it was such a last-minute decision to actually do it, but i loved writing this one <3
the @d20bingobattle has officially drawn to a close, and here's a list of my fics for it :)
because of this event, i started to get over my strange fear of writing fics that are less than 500 words, i challenged myself to not combine any prompts on my personal board, and d20 is now my most written fandom on ao3! i had a blast modding this event and i'm so happy people enjoyed it!!

Midnight Writer's Block
words: 899
summary: Without her goddess, Kristen's schoolwork looks a little different. Fig finds her up in the middle of the night, trying to make sense of it all.
relationship: fig & kristen
prompt: "your handwriting is atrocious"
ao3 link || request a prompt!
Crumpled sheets of paper littered the floor around the kitchen table, and Kristen let out a heaving sigh. She had gotten two sentences into her latest attempt at an essay before abandoning it once again, and nothing seemed to stick enough for her to keep writing. A not-insignificant part of her brain wanted to give up, to trudge back to her room, cocoon herself among the blankets, and forget about the fact that she was dangerously close to being expelled from Aguefort.
But she couldn't do that, not this time.
She scribbled her name and the prompt of the essay on the first few lines of the page, then put the pencil down and stared at the markings she had just made.
How does divinity manifest in your life?
A few weeks ago, the answer to that question would have been easy. She practically had her goddess on speed dial, for Helio's sake. Now, even the obvious answer of her spells was off the table, and she was drawing a blank on anything else. Was her doubt even divine? Or was she just too lost to make sense of it all?
The sound of an owl hooting in the graveyard outside caused Kristen's head to shoot up, puncturing the silence of the home in a way that shouldn't have been as surprising as it was. She looked up at the doorway, staring out into the darkness that loomed down the hall and up the stairs.
Everyone else was asleep, and here she was.
Kristen sighed as she picked up her pencil again. Divinity manifests itself in my life through my connection with the unknown. I don't know anythin-
No, that was stupid.
Right as she had ripped that page out of her notebook and tossed it unceremoniously to the side, a voice broke through the silence. "What are you doing up?"
Fig stood in the doorway of the kitchen with a confused look on her face. "Trying to write this essay," was Kristen's deadpan response. "And it's not working."
Nodding at the neon yellow can of energy drink that sat next to Kristen's notebook on the table, Fig walked across the room and picked up one of the crumpled rejects from the floor. After reading it through, a soft snort left her lips. "Wow, your handwriting is atrocious."
"Like yours is any better."
Fig laughed. "I don't know, I think this might be worse than mine."
Silenced descended over the two of them as Fig sat down at the table, and Kristen was the first to break it. "So, what are you doing up this late on a school night?" she asked, trying to imitate Jawbone's gravelly tone.
"I'm having the same problem as you."
"Do you want to swap assignments?" It was a joke, but if Fig actually agreed, Kristen was willing to try anything if it meant she didn't have to keep writing the same few sentences over and over.
"I don't know, do you want to write my sophomore album?"
Kristen paused, really thinking it over for a second. "If it was anything else I might have said yes," she said. "But I don't think I'm a songwriter."
"Right now, I'm feeling the same way," Fig said. "I've been staring at the wall in my room for the past two hours, trying to ignore the fact that I haven't been able to put down a single line."
"That's why I came out here," Kristen said, glancing around the dimly lit kitchen and half-eaten bag of microwave popcorn on the table. "I thought my room was the problem, but I still haven't been able to get two sentences down."
Fig nodded as she reached across the table and grabbed the can of energy drink. But right as she moved to take a sip, another voice interrupted the quiet. "I think it's time for both of you girls to get to bed."
Jawbone stood in the doorway now, stifling a yawn as he sleepily blinked at Fig and Kristen. "Nothing you have to do is more important than getting a good night's rest, that I can promise."
Kristen sighed. "Even if we have an assignment due tomorrow?"
"Even then," Jawbone said, stepping in to pick up some of the crumpled pieces of paper up from the floor and place them on the table. "If you're struggling this much, why don't you talk to your professor? I think if you showed Ms. Badgood the amount of times you tried to work on this, she'd be able to help you a little."
Looking around at the mess of paper on the table, Kristen knew Jawbone was right. Staying up any longer wasn't going to magically finish her assignment. "Okay," she said, closing her notebook and collecting more of the crumpled attempts from the floor.
"Forcing yourself to write something isn't going to make it appear on the page any faster," Jawbone said warmly. "That goes for you too, Fig."
Fig sighed. "Yeah, I know."
What felt like seconds later, Kristen was laying under the covers of her bed, eyes drooping as she finally realized how tired she was. She didn't know if Cassandra could hear her (or if she would even listen if she could), but she whispered a quick wish that her goddess was okay before finally succumbing to sleep.
Hopefully tomorrow things would be a little more clear.

i decided to actually make a d20/dropout sideblog now that i'm participating in more fic events! there will also probably be some naddpod sprinkled in, bc i'm in the middle of listening to c1 rn! my main blog (that i follow/send asks from) is @myshipsintheharbor :)
also, i've been meaning to make a masterlist for all my d20 fics, so that is below the cut. a 💫 next to the title of a fic means it's one of my favorites.
i'm currently the writing mod for from zood with love, a digital charity zine for cloudward, ho! other events i've helped out modding in the past are d20 bingo battle and the d20 fanfic masquerade.
all campaigns/shows will be tagged by full name!
