♡ Rainy windows rain cast streaky shadows on Jinora's nimble, pale feet as she darted across the cool wood floor to her parent's bedroom. Though it was early in the evening, the thick, inky clouds smothered the previously placid sky, and whipped waves around the island, shadowing the house in darkness. A flash of lightning through the dining room windows startled her, and she scampered the rest of the distance in haste, nearly knocking her mother to the ground as she stumbled into the room. ♡
Pema gave a soft gasp of shock as a little body ran into her, and she reached out into the darkness to find first a warm cheek and then a slender arm. Lighting flashed in the windows and she saw the vague outline of her oldest child's face. "Jinora?" Pema kissed the top of her daughter's head and pulled her into a tight hug. "Daddy's stuck in the city until the storm quiets, dear, so it's just the two of us, okay?" Wrapping an arm around her daughter's shoulders, she led her over to the bed in the corner.
