Make your craft yours! Don’t look at what the general aesthetic is!
For a very long time I held myself back in researching many things about witchcraft because I didn’t have the perfect book to dedicate as my BOS. Recently, I said “F*ck that!” and just started to slowly compile research on ordinary lined paper and place it in a rainbow (yes, RAINBOW) binder.
Will I most likely change it to fit more of the witchy aesthetic at some point in time? Yes, but only because that is what my goal is. I love the way old books look and want to have my BOS look like one. But, at this moment in time, I couldn’t be more bothered to create one because I don’t have the resources or any ideas for it.
I had started my path in a small notebook that I decorated and it just sits on my shelf with a few pages filled because I wanted my pages to be *perfect*. So now that I have my binder (with a “YOU GOT THIS” below the rainbow) I have started to actually spend much more time researching and using the notebook for rough/messy notes.
*You do not need a fancy shmancy, ancient, hocus pocus looking book to record your research!*
Just. Do. What. You. Want.
Even if it’s a plain ass notebook from your closest supermarket, you can always change it in the future!
TL;DR have a notebook for messy notes and then make it look how you want, even if it’s years later. Just do it, not looking at the aesthetic side of witchcraft!
This is YOUR practice and you get to decide what it looks like in the end. Don’t feel obliged to stick to the dark, witchy aesthetic if it doesn’t work for you.
