Today, the person formerly known as Uzune Hitori leaned against the window in the staff room. Barely anyone was here anymore; just Tousaka in the library, Shirogane in the student council room, San was running on the track, and Iwamine sat int eh staff room for once, burying his nose in a book that looked rather old.
Sipping his tea, Hitori thought about ending it all in this moment - the gun was always in his bag - but even Nageki told him not to act hastily for this once. Hitori growled into his sweet tea - it was so easy to shoot that darn man from behind.
However, in exactly that moment, Iwamine looked up, and for a moment Hitori thought he saw these cold violet eyes water.
The book the doctor was holding had been written by a "Kawara Ryuuji", and the teacher shook his head. Kawara...?
The quail thought of the only person with the name of Kawara he knew - a slightly clumsy, though loyal and hard-working student who was a bit too small and too frail-looking for his age; alone with his mother and best friends with a barbarian like Tousaka.
Wait. Only with his mother... Could it be...
If he were careful now, Hitori could possibly find a weak spot of the doctor.
"Doctor, if I may ask, what's with that book? Is that Kawara related to our Kawara?"
Shuu flinched visibly upon being spoken to; and Nageki's shadow cackled in amusement - only the shadow that was left of Kazuaki Nanaki seemed to frown.
"And what gives you the idea? If they were related, Kawara would not be failing math classes, because this Kawara was a genius on almost everything he touched. Too bad he passed away at least twelve years or so ago, I cannot recall."
Hitori sipped his tea again. "A loss for science...?"
"Yes." Shuu's violet eyes flickered. "His student also died shortly afterwards, which means that the only person who knows a lot about what Kawara did is someone who's clearly too stuck up with himself."
There was a bitter tone in the doctor's voice, and two voices casually suggested pouring salt into that obvious wound that Iwamine carried aroung - Hitori flinched a bit when the shadow of Nageki whispered in its sweetest tone: "Actually, killing him now when he's suffering seems like a good idea."
Once more, Hitori took a sip and finally put the cup away - the tea had been cold for what seemed like ages.
"You seem to know a lot about this student of Kawara."
"He was a cousin of mine."
"I'd say that you and him were pretty close, though, you sound like you're honestly mourning him."
"My cousin was a fool, and putting an end to his life after his best friend died was foolish."
"My, my. How cold."
"I am saying but the truth. He was a fool. A foolish idiot."
"One could think you are talking about yourself, Isa."
Iwamine froze, and a shadow fell across his face. The sun was almost done setting, and the bitter glint in the doctor's eyes was replaced by blank shock.
"How..."
"Oh, I know a lot about you, Isa Souma. And truth be told, I've been-"
"Excuse me!!"
Suddenly, Kawara was in the staff room, and Iwamine's head snapped around so fast that Ryouta flinched. Hitori took that moment to grab the gun and hide it under his jacket.
"I... Doctor... I, uhm... Ah!! Some student on the track fell and broke something, I think, she cannot move at all! I was going to ask if-"
Ryouta stopped dead when a metallic click echoed through the room. Both doctor and student slowly looked around and finally at the teacher. Hitori's face was unmoving, and Nageki's voice in the back of his head was whispering approvingly.
"Shoot them both dead. The man who killed me and the student who gets himself into things that his father started. Do it, Hitori. Do it for me. Don't leave them alive. Stomp on their bodies. We're finally going to be together again after this. It's going to be great. I'm going to tear you to shreds. Again and again and again."
The teacher cracked a smile, and he was certain that it looked more than just plain insane to the doctor and the student. Indeed, Kawara started backing away.
"Nanaki, have you finally lost it?! Stop pointing your gun at this student in an insant! Your quarrel seems to be with me, not with Kawara Ryouta."
This was the first time the doctor had said something like this, and Ryouta stopped dead. What was even going on? He didn't understand, and he understood even less why the doctor of all people would suddenly try to protect him - after all it had only been today that Iwamine had called him a nuisance.
The doctor had gotten up in the meanwhile and half-covered Ryouta - Ryouta was small for his age, and the doctor seemed like a tower to him.
Though, the teacher was taller.
"I'm sorry, Isa, but your fun little adventure as school doctor is going to end here."
Like that day, when the sun was setting, the sound of a gunshot could be heard, two shots, three shots, four, five, six, seven - Hitori stopped counting after some time. However, when both doctor and student lay on the floor, the student's red eyes wide open in shock and the doctor's half, broken body finally looked completely broken, Hitori packed his stuff away casually and left the school when the sun had set.
About five minutes after, a screech could be heard when the student council head opened the staff room and was greeted by the bodies of his classmate and the scientist he looked up to so much.
