Walpurgisnight (Witches Night)
Walpurgisnacht or Witches' Night is celebrated annually on April 30. In Germany, Witches used to gather on high mountaintops but villagers soon built fires on these hills to ward off evil and witches. Modern custom is to burn an effigy of a witch in order to drive these evils away.
