The more I think about Carpe Jugulum, the funnier it gets in principle. Like. The Vampires came to Lancre, a land ruled by a witch queen named Garlick, and they really expected that to go well for them. The hubris simply astounds.

You Have My Attention: The Witches Novels First Lines

The Witches weren't my first introduction to Discworld (that honor, weirdly enough, goes to Jingo, a Watch novel, and I almost bailed on Discworld then and there. So Grateful I didn't!), but they are my favorite sub-series. As per usual, Discworld and the wonderful Sir. Terry Pratchett need no introduction, but let's see how he's hooking the reader from the first sentences. Yes, plural. Give an author a couple sentences guys, come on.

"The wind howled. Lightning stabbed at the earth erratically, like an inefficient assassin. Thunder rolled back and forth across the dark, rain-lashed hills."

I Shall Wear Midnight is delightful, and it introduced me to "The Larks They Sang Melodious". Truly these books are the gift that keeps on giving.

I totally get why Tiffany won't enter him in the race, but it would be so much fun to see Horace compete in cheese rolling. I suspect that there would be fewer competitors at the end than there are at the beginning, but it sure would be fun to watch!

Oh wow, this is already way darker than the other Tiffany books. The rough music... wow.
