To Saturn and the underworld 🍂 As the reaper, Saturn is known to rule over time, generation, agriculture, and therefore, the harvest, which is commonly associated with death and darkness. For this reason, most poisonous plants fall under his rulership. Many of these volatile plants can be found throughout history as main ingredients in the infamous witches’ flying ointment and came to be known collectively as witch’s weeds. In the detail of my current drawing shown here, the hedge witch is akin to these poisonous plants and respects their dual nature to heal as well as destroy. They sprout from her gown, lifting her above the ground in reference to their incorporation in lifting balms. As she falls into a state of trance, from her sleeves sprout healing herbs of protection and dreamwork. Together with the Saturnine plants sprouting beneath her, she is engulfed in that safe territory of the flora that is her familiar realm. She floats above the ground in a transient place between worlds, cradled by Saturn as she communes with the spirits of the hedge, both dark and light. 🍂 #poisonappleprintshop #poisonousplants #witchesweeds
