the front door clicked quietly behind her, layla trying her hardest to not burst hafiz’s bubble of safety with loud noises. she couldn’t stay forever though, no matter how much she wanted to keep an eye on her in-law. she froze out front, daisuke approaching. layla never had high hopes with him, and now with hafiz’s condition, the bar was six feet under. fingers curled into fists at her sides, nails leaving crescent marks in her palms.
“you are supposed to protect them.” anger and frustration seethed under her calm, though fractured, demeanor. without a second thought, her hands met his chest in a shove. “you are supposed to protect them!”
