The thing about Finn Hudson is that he’s an ‘in the moment’ kind of guy.

It was something that Kitty had learned when they had first been together. It sort of seemed like Finn took everything in stride and went with the flow a little too much for her liking. For Kitty it was the opposite. She liked planning and organization and making sure that everything had a place and was is in it. It seemed like some sort of wacky proof of ‘Opposites Attract’ when the two of them got together, something that was shown time and time again throughout their relationship.

Well. Their first shot of a relationship, anyway.

Somewhere along the line the differences just became too great. After receiving only rejection letters from colleges and being gentle pushed out of the door of the new Hudson-Hummel household, Finn’s mood shifted. He became pessimistic and, well...lost. Kitty, on the other hand, had her senior year of school left to go and as newest Queen Bee of the playground she was practically on top of the world -- especially since they had been able to deal with her not-so-little fiance dilemma. In fact, the last time Finn had been truly happy was when he got to see the front page spread about the Polish mob boss who had been finally arrested leaving Kitty -- or Katarzyna -- officially a free woman by all means.

Having that freedom might have been a little too much too fast, though. She didn’t see the warning signs of their relationship heading south. The missed date nights, the cancelled plans. How ‘I love you’ slowly left their common vocabulary and was succeeded by radio silence. So, they did what they thought was best. They took a break. They said that it would be just that, too. They weren’t broken up, it was just...one break.

But everyone knows how those end up.

Soon their Facebook statuses returned to ‘Single’. Pictures became selfies or old pictures of game days. Holidays were spent alone in the studio apartment that Finn picked for himself, or at big business dinners that bored Kitty to tears. Then, somehow one of them started to date around. Facebook statuses changed again and photos included a girl with dark hair or whatever guy her parents were trying to hook her up with now.

In fact, she was on a date with one of those very boys when, yet again, it became very obvious that she and Finn Hudson were two very different people. She hadn’t even been thinking of him that night (okay, maybe she was, but it was deep in a part of her mind that she often ignored), and so when she saw him suddenly appear next to her table she could hardly breathe. At first she thought maybe he was a hallucination from mixing her sleeping medicine with the wine from dinner, but the droplets of fallen rain that dripped from the ends of his hair down onto her dress made it all too real.

He was speaking a mile a second, fast enough to where she could only get snippets of the grand picture. He was sorry. He dumped Jessie, or Janice, or whatever her name was (her name was Jade and she was in school to be a doctor and Kitty was well aware of all of that for very stupid, very drunk 2 AM reasons). He can’t stand the thought of someone else making her happy when he knows that no one can do the job better than him. Yeah...she heard that last part loud of clear.

Then he dropped to his knee and pulled out a box, bringing all sorts of flashbacks to that day on the bridge when she tossed a similar box over the side of the bridge and promised him that he was her future. Now he was asking her if that was true after all.

The ring was beautiful.

And it fit on her finger just right.

Maybe there’s something to say about spontaneity.
