Childish Things
growing up i was told to make no time for childish things; that the time to play would be later that first I must outgrow my childhood surpass my peers prepare for a life of work without joy growing older i was told to put away my childish things; that i had outgrown such frivolities that instead i must work, day and night make money spend money live life without joy growing old i was told i was too old for such childish things that my life was ending and must be spent in prayer and reflection that i must lie in repose without joy when I am dead do not treat my remains as sacred nor my belongings as treasures; for they are all childish things and should they tell you live your life without joy ignore them: for there is nothing more childish than mistaking a joyless existence for a worthy life
