Description
Associated with his father Egica on the throne, in the year 700 Witiza was appointed king of the Suebi in Galicia , establishing his royal seat in the city of Tuy . Upon his father's death two years later, he succeeded him as sole king of the Visigoths. Although little is known of his reign, some anonymous chronicles mention that he brought peace and prosperity to his kingdom. He was a less belligerent ruler than his father, and he lifted the punishment imposed on those he had exiled, returning to them their property, slaves, and even positions in the palace.
