Wittecouple Week 2025 Day 4: Free Day
So I gotta balance out the wholesomeness with the angst for @wittecoupleweek
this was a little thing that I had sitting in my Google docs for a few months, that I never posted. So enjoy this is a Tumblr exclusive little drabble.
Evelyn felt her eyes open as she groggily sat up in bed, strange the heaviness that had been there for the past several days. She also noticed the subtle hint of food cooking, which was strange. Who would be cooking? She quietly got up and walked to her bed room door opening it slowly, she assumed some her friends or her parents would be there, they had been coming to check on her, making sure she was taking care of herself, and soon to be child, yet she looked and as she she gasped, her hand shooting up to her mouth as she saw Caleb standing there, “Caleb…” Was all that she could whisper, opening the door fully, And then he turned to her. There was no blood, and there was no stab wound. There was just that warm smile that made her melt, his brown eyes that she would spend countless times getting lost in.
Evelyn, without a thought, rushed over to him and hugged him, tears streaming down her face. As his arms held her back, he really did give the best hugs. She thought to herself. As she looked up at him through her tear-streaked eyes, he brushed their hair out of her face the same way he had always done. But as she was starting to get lost, she knew this wasn't real, and she softly whispered. “But… this isn’t how it happened… you died…” letting go of Caleb and taking a step back looking at the human who captured her heart and soul. The human who was a bit clumsy, fascinated by birds and wood carving, the human whose heart held so much kindness and love. The human who did everything he could to protect her that night. With fresh tears in her eyes, she continued. “I still have so much left to say… but if I can only say one thing. I want to thank you… Thank you for loving me, and thank you for sharing your story with me… though it was oh so short... I know We’ll see each other again one day, my darling Caleb.” Evelyn whispered as a sad smile crossed her face. “Until next time..." With that, the image before her faded, and she bolted upright as she woke up in a half empty bed, and she cried.
