earlier this morning, i found a review on an archive page for the toad of toad hall script claiming to refuse to believe that anyone in the riverbank would dare to call mr. toad "toady", even ratty in particular

i was like "hmm... but i sorta remember seeing ratty using that nickname in the book?" so i grabbed a copy of the book and used archive's search inside function to see how many times "toady" has been brought up and here are the results:

9 times in total

1 is from 2 unnamed stoat guards taunting him

2 is from badger

and lastly, 6 from none other than rat himself!

surprised that mole haven't called him that at least once in the book, thought he did but must been thinking about the cosgrove hall tv show where he does

so yeahhh no idea why rat calling mr. toad "toady" would be like an OOC thing. i mean, understandable if it's strangers in the riverbank because that would seem kinda weird to call him that or whatever but rat is one of toad's close friends! i think toad would be ok with his dear friends calling him a nickname
