Was it the Walrus is back!
Dear Reader,
Thank you for reading this note.
While living in Montreal in 2006, I wrote some songs and recorded a number of them with some buddies of mine from other bands. The band ended up generating buzz in the Montreal indie scene. That buzz quickly went from fun-loving project to pressure and people constantly inquiring about progress or looking for the latest new scoop. We were young, immature, unprepared, and most of all not ready for all that attention. The pressure got to us, and we ultimately split. That was hard to accept. All that work, essentially shot down the tube by immaturity, irresponsible behavior, and greed.
However, talking to friends and people that I respect, helped me battle through it. A few years have gone by and I’ve had time to sit back, grow a little, mature a little, and reboot. I’m more prepared now to enjoy it and just go with it. I always knew it wasn’t the definite end of the Walrus, however I needed time.
I’ve been looking for a way to start over and wanted to do things differently. I want to reconnect with audiences on a much more intimate level and to play songs the way I want to play them. I want to see what it will be like to start from scratch again, without the comfort of the professional musicians who helped out in the past.
The good news is that I can do that now. It’s cool. It’s interesting to get out and play without expectations.
So now here we are, 7-years later and the Walrus is back. I’m putting some final touches on the songs before hitting the studio. I’ve enlisted some of those same musicians I originally recorded with to record songs of mine that had been sitting around for far too long. I’ll admit it took longer than expected to get back at it, however, three young kids and a wife later, my time is so squished.
The good news is that we are almost there and I’m hoping to release songs before the end of this year.
Thank you for reading and see you all soon!
