Mold is commonly used in spells such as hexes or curses; while not an original ingredient typically, mold growth on spell ingredients is a sign that the curse, hex, etc. is working. It is a ‘negative’ side effect.

please help, are there any protection/quick healing spells good to have on hand? just got blasted by a yellow beam and couldn't counterspell it in time. unrelated, would also appreciate any good curses to inflict that you have for beginner magic users

Healing Word is always your safest quick-heal bet, but if you have the time a cleansing ritual is better long term.
For fights, an eldritch blast is a good curse-based spell? Depending on how you look at it. But a short hex of slowness for a follow up blast, or vicious mockery for some quick damage for fun.
