happy kim dokja day ‼️‼️
Happy Kim Dokja Day (Part 1)! The fun thing about being part of an international fandom is two days of celebrating birthdays for characters.
the MTL used descriptors like "kid" and "child" for the oldest dream; but acc to the timeline dokja started reading the novel around 15-18. is this a translation error or is the oldest dream looking like a child rather than a teenager canon?
By that point in the story, it should be APW who is doing the translation and they are human and did not (as far as we know) use machine translation, so it should be more accurate than the machine.
This is how our translation team did it (rough TL)
「Someone was sitting on the bench in the subway station.」 There was a thick backpack next to him stuffed full with textbooks like he had just gotten out of school. It would have been easy to mistake this skinny and small boy for an elementary student, if not for his school uniform.
The Most Ancient Dream is physically small for his age both in height and in body weight.
But regardless of appearance, it seems common for the adults in ORV (or, at least, Kim Dokja) to refer to anyone who is a teenager and younger as a "child" or "kid". Kim Dokja called Lee Jihye a kid even though she was 16/17 (depending on if you are using international or Korean age) at the start of the story, refers to Iris as a child, and he continues to refer to Lee Gilyoung and Shin Yooseung as children even when they reach about 15 after the 3 year time skip. This manner of description tracks for Kim Dokja's narration.
the narrative itself mourns kim dokja during the sidestory. i need to bang my head against a wall and die
i genuinely appreciate keeping the name as "three ways to survive the apocalypse" instead of the variations ive seen like "ways to survive in a ruined world" so much
hope the team has a good day :)
