In Super Mario RPG, Bowser’s Minions in Bowser’s Keep will attempt to fight Mario’s party, despite Bowser’s alliance with Mario.
Bowser’s Minions may have been following orders from Wizakoopa, who was brainwashed by the Smithy Gang, explaining this behaviour.
The Prophecy About Mario And Luigi
So in the Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island manual on page 5 there is an explanation about why Kamek is trying to kidnap Baby Mario and Luigi. Kamek had gotten a prophecy that 2 twin brothers would bring disaster for the Koopa Family. "The kidnapper is Kamek, an evil Magikoopa from the Koopa Kingdom. Having divined last night that twin babies born this morning will bring disaster to the Koopa family." I find this extra interesting given the fact that this prophecy showed up even before this game.
While non canon the Mario OVA has an old man speak of a prophecy about 2 twin brothers that would help the Mushroom Kingdom. Keep in mind this animation took place long before Yoshi's Island, and only one year after the original Super Mario Bros. game.
In addition it also sets Mario and Luigi living on the same planet as the Mushroom Kingdom, in a Kingdom of their own. This all before the introduction of the Metro Kingdom and New Donk City in Super Mario Odyssey, and even Big Ape City being on the same planet in Donkey Kong Land and Donkey Kong 94.
This prophecy could be the reason why Bowser's troops are in the sewers of Mario Bros./Did Somebody Call A Plumber. With Kamek with Bowser Kamek could have told him about this prophecy, and Bowser sent his troops to prevent the Bros. from finding their way to the Mushroom Kingdom. Only to lead them directly to it.
Fact: Wizakoopa is the leader of the Magikoopa Corps in Super Mario RPG. He was brainwashed by the Smithy Gang and guarded Bowser’s Keep.
Despite his different name, his role and Thought Peak indicate he may actually be Kamek.
Super Mario RPG Is The First Time Kamek Has Seen Mario Since He Was A Baby
Super Mario RPG is the first Kamek has seen Mario since he was a baby. This is because when reading his thoughts are "The baby from that time!?" It's believed this is referring to Mario, but when he was a Baby. But when translated to English it says "That's…my child?" This might be a mistranslation or referring to Bowser. I lean towards a mistranslation because in the remake the Japanese dialogue takes priority. In the remake going by the name Wizakoopa and his thoughts are "Eep! is that the baby from so long ago?" Wizakoopa is more than likely supposed to be Kamek, and this is his first time seeing Mario since he was a Baby.
Is Magikoopa Magic Star/Wish Magic?
So recently I was taking a look at the bosses for Captain Toad Treasure Tracker and I noticed something about the Wingo boss fight. Wingo uses magic, and it has a specific appearance. It resembled Magikoopa magic. Wingo also happened to wearing Power Star the one they snagged at the beginning of the game. This reminded me of something.
Back when I was younger I played Super Mario Galaxy a lot, and this Wingo boss fight reminded me of it. In SMG there is a boss fight with a large Magikoopa named Kamella Koopa. This Koopa has a power star in it's wand, and it uses it to cast magic and it still resembles typical Magikoopa magic. This got me thinking, is Magikoopa magic actual Star/Wish Magic?
I also was reminded of something that happened in Super Mario Galaxy 2, in SMG2 Bowser gains the Power of the Stars and grow big. I wonder if power stars are indeed connected to Magikoopa magic. The reason I say this is because the majority of times Bowser grows big it's because of Kamek using his magic on him. So this could mean there is connection between it and the Power of the Stars.
Maybe Magikoopas like Kamek have Mini Stars in their wands that they use to cast magic. While larger Magikoopas like Kamella can place a Power Star in their wands instead. This could also end up explaining why Wingo is able to use magic that is similar to Magikoopa magic, they are using the Power of the Stars. I n addition maybe the way they use star magic could possibly be considered black magic. So what do you think of my hypothesis?
